Holy cj

So there is a jeep that has been sitting on my Grandpa's farm for as long as I can remember. It was used to plow roads so the salt eats away at the meatal and looks like it gets worse everytime I see it. I want to save it from its rusty grave. It has a chevy 350 and from what looks like a 5 speed tranny. The problem is, is that I have no idea what to pay for it. I know no more then 500.

Pre 1976. Looks like a 1972-1975 model Intermediate CJ5. If it really is, parts are not all that fun. Trust me. 1976 and up are a different beast. 1971 and earlier are another style when it comes to parts. 76 and up fenders and grills will work, but tubs don't, without alot of work. Different frames, tub, dash, wiring harness, steering, heaters, etc.

I was looking on the inside of it and there has been a lot of previous body work done to it. I think they welded in some patches and just spray painted it which would be why it is rusting so much.

Poor cj. Looks like someone at one point did a lot of work with the drivetrain and interior mods.

I haven't started it up yet but next time I drive up there I will test it out and ask about buying if it runs good.

This looks to be an intermediate 72-75. If you do buy it could turn out to be alot work. But this CJ needs to be rescued.

Don't pay a penny more than $500, you are really just buying the base and have to redo everything.

save yourself alot of heart ache and find a 76+ on craigslist for 2k or less. i just bought a 76 cj5 built with very minor problems for 3 that i could part out and double my money. that thing will be a money pit and if it was used for plowing chances are good the frame is cracked and rusting not a good combo. tell the guy youll haul it off for him for free then part out whats salvageable and send that poor thing to its final resting place.
