Installing TJ flares on a CJ with a factory fit

I know a lot of CJ owners people want more clearance in their fenders for larger wheels and tires, and many of them try to fit the larger TJ flares to get that extra clearance. When I owned a Scrambler and did some experimenting with TJ flares, I couldn't see a way to get a fit of TJ flares on CJ fenders that I thought would look good enough. The lip on the CJ fender is a problem for mounting a TJ flare, and the curves at the front don't match at all.

I know some people fit TJ flares on their CJ fenders in a way that they're happy with, but I just couldn't come up with a way that I liked well enough to go ahead with it.

I may have a solution for that... I've been working on a kit to install a CJ grille on a TJ Wrangler, more info on that in the TJ section of this forum (http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/kit-...tj-162281.html). Here are a few photos of the first fiberglass parts out of the mold for that kit, they're bolted to the front section of a TJ tub, with a factory CJ grille:

The kit includes fenders that have CJ styling but have been reworked to provide a factory fit for TJ flares.

These fenders accept any factory TJ flares (in the photos above the wider, painted Sahara flares are installed), or any aftermarket flares designed for the TJ, such as Bushwacker pocket flares, etc.

These fenders are about 1 3/4" longer than CJ fenders so they match the length of the TJ's engine compartment, but in the molds I've already made, CJ-length versions of these fenders could be produced. These would be a direct bolt-on for a 76-86 CJ. Versions could also be molded for earlier year "short fender" CJ-5's.

I just build these projects as a hobby and have no plans to market anything I build, but I've been approached by someone who is interested in marketing these fenders to CJ owners. I've also had interest from a few who are interested in marketing the entire CJ Grille Conversion Kit for the TJ, but this person is just wanting to market the fenders.

So I'm posting this to see what interest there might be among the CJ crowd for fenders like this. I'm trying to decide if I want to work with this person (or any company) to bring any or all of this kit to market.

Input please:

Would people be interested in fenders like this for their CJ so they could have TJ flares with clearance for larger wheel/tire combinations?

If you do want more clearance, but wouldn't be interested in having fenders like these on your CJ, why not?

Thanks for your input.
jeff

Im not sure I understand where or how TJ flares gives additional clearance? As far as looks, I wouldn't buy them. I'm too much of a CJ fan. I'll change out mechanical components, but I like for mine to look all CJ.

I think what your going to find is that CJ people love the look of the CJ's and have no intentions of ever changing it. Lets face it, everyone makes parts to mimic a CJ and no one makes parts to mimic any other era.

Thanks. I didn't build this kit so that the fenders could be installed on CJ's, nor did I build it to be a commercial product, I just built it for myself.

Since someone approached me wanting to market the fenders to CJ owners, I asked the question here to see if it would be worth my trouble to spend any time entertaining this guy's proposal.

Never mind then .

TJ wheel openings are a lot larger than CJ wheel openings, and so are the flares.

I've gotten a manufacturing price quote that indicates these could retail at the same price as the "factory replacement" fiberglass fenders that are currently on the market. But I'm not really sure there would be enough demand for these to make the effort of getting them to market worthwhile.
