Jeep Disease or what

I was just sitting here reading a reply that I thoughtfully crafted (what we did in our CJ), and I started remembering my other jeeps.

I think I have a problem, I have a addiction. Thats the first step right? Admitting you have a problem ? Hopefully I will gather the support group I need to carry on. You see back in grade school way back in the early 70's I lusted after jeeps. Told myself that I will have one of those. When high school started in 1979 my plan was still in progress. It did not help that the girl down the street had a COOL yellow CJ5. I wanted that jeep !!!!

Finally in 1993 I scored ! My first jeep, 1 '92 YJ and my road to addiction started. That YJ lasted me until April 2002 when it was sold. May of '02 I was in a TJ sport ! Then the flattie bug hit me, had to have a flatfender !! Soooooo a couple years went by, the TJ grew-stock, then 3" lift, then 4". I scored a sweet 1964 CJ3B along with a friend for life in the previous owner.

The TJ was the test bed for lifts and tires and such, the 3B stayed stock, hell it had the military NDCC tires and no roll bar, no radio, no heater. It was my Pearland Christmas Parade and Friendswood 4th of July Parade vehicle. We started a Flatfender group locally for common support.

I figured I made it !! Two nice jeeps at the same time. Well life came calling and the 3B was released into the wild in 2010. A stock jeep that was damn cool ! The TJ went the same way in August of 2012. I thought I have this thing licked, I can quit cold turkey. Then I found myself looking at eBay, and Craigslist, and jeepbrokers, and Collinsbros, and Selectjeeps here in town. Driving by car lots on the way home from work, out of the way places "just to have a quick look".

I lasted until November, just three short months. I found my Jeep, the one. A yellow CJ5, almost all stock, with a strong 6 cyl/3spd and stock suspension. SO my enabler, my loving wife agreed to drive from Houston to Bryan/College Station (1 1/2 hrs) to look with me. Made a handshake deal that day and drove CJ home the day before thanksgiving.

That felt good getting off my chest. Coming clean with this addiction.

TELL me brothers, are there some of you that need to come clean

I've owned 13 Jeeps in my time... my first one was a '59 wagon with a PTO winch... in 1971.
At one point I had seven at once, in various states of disrepair.

I didn't have much choice.
My dad always had Jeeps. He told me about the Jeep wave back in the 60s.
His brother was a Jeep/Buick mechanic with his own shop. In the 60s he had dozens of Jeeps... five VJs, two FC wreckers, Gladiators, postal 4wd conversions, wagons, CJs...

I currently have only one Jeep, the LJ.
I suspect it's not my last one... I'll continue to feed this addiction...

I say its a disease with no cure and refuse to seek help!
She just doesn't understand, but yet every time the top comes off and I hit riverroad there she is!

have had three, currently have two. almost scored a 56CJ5 three weeks ago for $100. Frame was good and it had the front clip but no tub. I think the wife was happy with me missing this one.

What I'd really like to stumble into is a late 40's CJ2A and a 50's Willy's pick-up.

Don't have much of an update on my '76 CJ, been more parts gathering than anything.

Always gotta have a jeep. Need a big old jeep or willys rusty sign to hang on garage. Like the older ones. Have had 5 running and a few other not running over the years
1st - 73 cj5 hopped up 304 ex ice racer - would smoke 33 inch tires.
50 willys pickup turned mud racer
72 cj5
46 cj2a - current
72 commando - current
Wife likes, but has mentioned expensive. Halairious teaching her to plow in the 46 from in the house via 2 way radio - I broken ankle. Kept giving her shit to keep off the clutch and had to get her mad before she would giver to push banks back. She got pretty good with it. Sorry to babble - need 15 posts before can post in classifieds.

I bought my first Jeep from my brother in 1981. That was a bare bones CJ5. We added a roll bar (smart move as I was a crazy college kid) and new ragtop. I drove that for 5 years, did some crazy things in it and sold it for $250 more than I paid for it. That CJ started my love of Jeeps. My second Jeep was also my very first brand new vehicle! I somehow convinced my wife that I really needed another Jeep. This was a 1994 YJ with a hardtop. Added a Bestop ragtop to it within 4 months. Loved that Jeep and drove it for 6 years and 153K miles. I had to trade that in because we were expecting our second kid. Well, now that our oldest is off to college and I’ve saved for two years of her tuition, I figured it was time to reward myself with another Jeep. Can you believe that I again convinced my wife that I just had to have another one! Yup…she’s awesome!...so now I have a 2013 JK and love it as much as my previous two Jeeps!

I have owned a left-hand drive DJ2A, 2 CJ-5's, 2 CJ-7's, A Scrambler (CJ-8), and now a Wrangler YJ.
Oh, and yes, I have also owned 2 Cherokees.
I don't think there is a cure!

I've been an addict for two years now. When i started i was niave and didn't know any better, i thought i would just try it, little did i know i was heading down a long and dark (and oftentimes muddy) road. It feels good to know there are others that are struggling too and together we can overcome this. Be strong fellow jeepers, be strong!

I currently have a TJ on 37's and a cj2a in pieces, but quickly coming together. It'll be left near stock. The TJ will eventually become a buggy most likely... The lady wants a yellow cj5, but that won't come through for couple years.

I only have one, an 04 TJ. I've had it a year, but I still go to the back door and look at it in the carport. Am I sick?

How many times do you look back at it when you walk away from it in a parking lot ??

Yeah, you're sick like the rest of us...

Ok I'm a new 1979 cj7 owner and it got me already, I'm constantly shopping for her, rubbing her with wax and yes driving her. It is a disease I don't see my self getting cured from. People need to be warned before they buy one.

By far the best thread yet! Got an old 83 CJ7 that I bought from my dad a few years ago. Drove that thing everywhere when I was teen. After buying it I couldn't stop working on it, building on it. Had to move from Florida to Virginia for the military and had to leave it behind in the garage :'(. Wasn't here a month or two when my wife said we needed a newer reliable "family" vehicle. Well since I already had the itch to get back in the seat of a jeep I bought an 05 LJ! Told her it was the best "family" we could possibly get! Now I cant stop tinkering and driving the new one! The wife says I have a problem....but I dont want to find a cure ;-)

Sometimes, at night, when everyone is asleep, i sneak to the garage. I make sure no one has followed me. Then ever so quietly I turn on the light and just stare !! There she sits, top off, looking so innocent and sweet !!

Same here. I've had nightmares about something bad happening to my jeep (86 CJ7). When I lived in San Diego, my fear was my jeep would end up in Mexico (in a million pieces). In Vegas, I figured I'd just find a parted out shell. But thankfully, I've only had minor issues (the odd carseat cover theft, stolen spare, some broken knobs). I've had it over 25 years and it's still fairly pristine. Admittedly, I no longer wash her every weekend, but the love is still strong! My kids are now fanatics. Proud parent!!! she has been my primary source of transport until just recently. Now I'm selling the hard top, and keeping her topless and ready for sunshine! She's prettier that way. ;D

My best friend and I had Jeeps at the same time over the years. His were always nicer street rigs and mine were trail rigs. He swapped his last one, an '84 CJ-7 for a Harley. I lusted after this Jeep when he had it as we had swapped a 360 and 727 in it. I ran across it about a year ago and snatched it up. It had deteriorated significantly and thus the build begins. I've already fuel injected the 360 and am in the process of putting 1-tons underneath it before I redo the body. Yes, these things are an addiction.

I was always a truck guy. In high school my best friend had a YJ, that he later turned into a CJ5. Another buddy had a nice CJ7 Laredo. I wheeled with them in a shortbread Chevy, a Tacoma, and others. I always wanted a jeep, I saw what they could do. Finally last year my F150 gave way to a '13 JKU. I have two young kids so I convinced the wife it was perfect for our family. Well it was too perfect. You see, I have a company truck I bring home, so it is my daily driver. The Jeep is never at home. My wife takes it every day. Her Accord just sits in the garage gathering dust. She is addicted just like me (which makes mods easier to justify). Well, I am gonna take that Accord and turn it into a CJ7. Now the search begins. I am a little particular, so it may take a while to find exactly what I want. Life is too short to drive something you hate.
Addiction, obsession, whatever word you use, I've got it. And it's spreading throughout my house, now my wife, son and daughter all have it too.

64' CJ5.
67' wag.
80' CJ5. (Still have).
00' TJ 60TH. Anniversary.
98' XJ 2door.
89' YJ Islander. (Still have).
60' CJ5.
99' TJ Sahara.

My 64' was built by my best friend in High School. It had a 327 / 350hp. Corvette motor with a Ford top loader 4speed, a Vega GT dash board, and 31s. I would bet anyone riding with me, that they could not grab a beer from the swinging holder on the dash, as I went through the gears. No one ever won the bet! Ha ha, man that was fun! That started my addiction!

I've always loved jeeps since I was a little kid so I got a summer job and saved up enough to purchase my very own TJ right before I got my license We have a CJ at our ranch but I wanted one to truly be mine. Now I have it and the addiction has begun.
