lets talk shocks!

81 CJ8 with 31/2" spring lift

How is the best way for me to go about deciding what shock I need for this vehicle.
Light trail riding. Nothing too extreme

Just not sure the length I need to get and that sort of stuff

I'd measure bolt to bolt as a double check. You should be able to find the travel distances listed in the description.

You on a budget? You like hydraulic or gas?

Procomps are cheap but seem to be ok. I like OME but are limited in the cj market.

Yes on a pretty tight budget so to speak. I went ahead and went with the procomps ES9000. This is what i have on my YJ from the PO and they do pretty good. I had to order some parts today from 4WD.com and asked the sales person what he recommended. Gave me about 3 options and since I knew how the ES9000 did I decided to go with those. Again this is for my parents, in their mid-60's so its not like they are going to be doing anything crazy. Hey Dempsey, I would like to ask you some questions, OK to send your a PM?
