I've been looking all over the place and can't seem to find the answer. I have an 81 CJ7 with the 4.2 and has power steering. I've been trying to figure out how the bell coupler( aka tulip coupler or rag joint) stays together at the bottom of the steering shaft attaching to the steering box. What keeps the shaft in the coupler. The reason I'm asking is because the boot on my is ripped and the shaft has backed out enough to not allow the steering to turn the wheels but not enough to fall out completely. I just want to go in and get the rebuild setup. But I just don't see how the shaft stays in the coupler. What keeps the shaft in the coupler.
