Model 20 mystery

I'm usually ok on figuring these things out, but I am stumped. While cleaning and rejuvenating a Model 20 rear end for my buddy's CJ7. I noticed some strange things. According to the tag on the front Dana 30, it is a factory 4.10 setup. Verified by tooth count. When we removed the differential cover to check out the rear axle, the tooth count was verified as also 4.10. It also has Yukon one piece axles which is a good thing. Now, when I was inspecting the side gears, and the spiders, I noticed the pin was inside a "slotted" hole. Unfamiliar to me. When turning the pinion, both sides turn the same direction, indicating to me as being some sort of limited slip, or locker. I'm just baffled by the "slotted" hole in the carrier. Does anyone have any ideas? It doesn't look like any lunchbox locker I've seen. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Sounds like the factory Trac Loc. While looking at the diff cover, look on the boss where the tube meets the housing. There should be letters stamped. If you have a narrow track 20 I bet you'll see "M". If you have a wide track it should be "CC". If the letters are different then you have some aftermarket mods. Those letters denote a factory 4.10 setup with the factory Trac Loc (which I believe has a large pin).

Model 20 mystery

Its a Christmas miracle. #1 is that you figured it out. #2, you figured out what the heck I was speaking of. I was cleaning up the housing, and I did see those marks "CC" so it must be the factory Trac Loc. thank you so much for helping me figure this out. the slotted hole for the pin just threw me. again, thank you. nice to speak to someone that understands what the heck I'm talking about. (Jeep wave coming your way. thanks again) poppajeep

I ran the factory Trac Loc for years and never had a problem with it. Glad I could help. Have fun jeeping and Merry Christmas!
