need help with clutch

I am working on a 78 cj7 with a 360, I've got it down to frame motor and I just put in a np435. Before I start putting everything back together and dropping the body back on is there a way I can test to see if its all hooked up correctly. My thought is that if I pull back on the shift fork with the transmission in gear that I should be able to turn the output shaft freely. This isn't happening. Did I miss something. Thanks.
