Original Jeep Emblem

Can't seem to find this anywhere -- anyone have good pictures of where the original Jeep emblem was located on the rear? I have a TJ and was thinking about replicating this unless this is considered sacrilege.

Name: Jeep.jpg
Views: 384
Size: 6.6 KB

I guess it's two questions in one:

1) If you saw this on a TJ would it irritate you?

2) If not, where exactly does it go (midway above the right rear light?)?

Thanks.

On a cj7 the gas tank is on the right rear. The amc jeep emblem goes above the tank about an inch and a half down from where the top would sit on the body. There's no logo in the pic but hopefully you can kinda see where its supposed to go.

Edit...if you zoom in on the pic you can actually see the outline of the emblem above the gas tank. That would've been where it originally went. The one on the top left would've been the cj7 emblem.

If I saw it, I would sure wonder why a TJ has an AMC era badge... I'd probably think you had stuck an old AMC carbed V8 in it. Just my 2c

I'm also a fan of some old Jeep badges on newer rigs.

For example, I took this grille badge from an early Jeepster Commando, ran it on my CJ for many years, then transferred it to my LJ:

I've also seen the old Willys Truck "4-Wheel-Drive" script on the hood of a TJ and I liked it... I don't remember whose pic this is, I saved it a few years ago as a reminder:

I may do this in silver on mine one of these days.

If you like the old emblem on your rig, go for it, post pics when completed!
