Please help to identify this '71 model

HELP! PLEASE!
We have just acquired a ‘Jeep’ in Mexico. It is automatic and has right hand side steering… we have the legalization papers but not the original documents therefore the only info we can find is on two plaques, which read:
Ř D-58
Ř 6 cylinder Rambler Motor
‘Wrangler’ is painted on the side however since this is supposed to be a 1971 model we think it may be a CJ5.
Could someone please help us find more information about this vehicle so that we may acquire a manual to begin restoration.
Thank you so much!
Roca

The CJ or General section might be more help. The correct model information should be on the title to the vehicle.

Pictures would help.

I'm guessing it's a DJ-5, or Dispatch Jeep. Used by the post office mostly.

It is not a Wrangler if it's a 1971 - they didn't use that name back then.

Vehiculos Automotores Mexicanos (VAM) produced Jeep vehicles in Mexico back in 71. They also built AMC Ramblers during the same time. The D is usually a designation for "dispatch" which could be the D in the D58 and the reason for right hand drive you mentioned.

Thank you everyone for your kind replies.
Regarding your comments, this is all the information I have gathered from the legalization documents, which do not indicate WHERE the vehicle was manufactured, or purchased:
Series Number: 8 5 1 1 0 1 3 2 6 2
Make: JEEP – VAG 2 Doors
- 2 Wheel drive
- Right side steering, automatic
On a Plaque on the dashboard: - DJ-58
Model Year: 1971
Motor Number: RAMBLER, 6 cylinder
- USA – 406E24
Given all this, my next question is where I would be able to acquire a User’s Manual for this what seems to be rare model.
I am new here and cannot find how to upload a photo.uggestions please.
Thank You.

Are you sure that tag reads DJ-58 and not DJ-5B.
If its a DJ-5B you can purchase a manual here ... Postal Jeep Parts

pics would make a WORLD of difference, but I own a DJ-5B from '71, so here goes...

#1 indicator it's a DJ-5B - Right hand drive

#2 indicator - as mentioned already... a stock DJ-5B would be two wheel drive...

also look for a few other things unique to a DJ. It's got a full steel enclosed cab, no removable top. The tail lights are all round and flush mounted. the doors are sliding doors. it's got a full size rear door, and the window is part of the door. the VIN number is numeric only and is found on a sticker on the dashboard. and last but not least, count the number of vertical openings (slats) on the front grill... a CJ of any type will have 7 slots in the front, and a DJ from '71 or later will only have FIVE vertical slots.

As I said, I own one, and have for about 8 years now, so if ya got any questions about it, post em up on this same thread and I'll do my best

To Aelwero jeeper

Thank you so much for your very informative reply. The jeep is in the shop, I will check on the details you mentioned next time I go in to see what they are up to.
I do have photos but have no idea how to upload the?
By the way the jeep is topless - perhaps it was hacked off over the years?
Be Well,
roca

Sounds like a DJ. I just sold one and it had the same 6cyl automatic setup. I lived in Mexico a few years ago doing mission work and I found an awesome Jeepster Commando, but it was going to be extremely difficult and expensive. Be sure to check out the costs & requirements for importing a vehicle. This may help: http://foreignborn.com/visas_imm/ent...ingyourcar.htm

Thanck you very much for your reply and for your suggestion. Our 'Jeepmobile' is in the shop, hopefully we can get it on the road with minimum expense.
