should I trade my yj for a scrambler?

I have an offer to trade my YJ for a Scrambler (sort of).

My YJ: 1990; 4.0; AW4; NP242; 2.5 skyjacker with 31" general grabbers. Tom woods SYE, Tom Woods front and rear shafts, Warn 6500. Some other custom stuff I've done like upgraded seats, custom bumper etc. Runs great, drives great, very little rust on the frame and body.

I've been offered a flat trade for a fully restored, reinforced, painted, coated, and bed-lined factory Scrambler tub, frame, hood, grill, all hardware and harnesses, everything except for running gear (no engine, trans, tcase, springs, axles, wheels or tires). Also includes factory steel doors in great shape, factory dash with all gauges, tailgate, and boxes of other goodies.

I pulled my current engine, trans, tcase out of an XJ and did the wiring to run them in my YJ. I also installed everything else including drive shafts, lift, shocks etc on my current wrangler. I've also swapped a 4.0 into my brothers CJ-7. I'm not intimidated by putting a driveline into jeeps.

I've been to check out the scrambler tub and frame, they are better than factory with all the right areas reinforced and have been professionally painted and rust-proofed.

My current situation (wheeling buddies moved away, new baby who cannot ride in a jeep until 3 years old per Wife, Wrangler is our third vehicle) means I don't have much need for a running jeep at the moment.

so the question is... do I take the swap? Am i getting ripped off? YJ's are a dime a dozen, good scramblers are impossible to find for reasonable money?

Being that your getting parts.. is ther a title to all this stuff? Vin number etc?

To me sounds like your about to giveup a well done YJ for a pile of someones problems. but do what makes you happy, but with a little one to also buy stuff for how long will it be before you have extra $$ to throw at the cj?

If all it needs is a drivetrain, I'd do it(you obviously won't have to pay someone to work on it). Does it have a top?

No tops, which is obviously a big expense, especially for a scrambler. That said, this will be a long term project, which gives me time to source tops as i can and *hopefully* find a decent deal on a full hard top.

The more I prod the Scrambler owner, the more I learn. He has axles, tires, and wheels that he will give me, so now it becomes a rolling frame if I can dig up some springs.

He also mentioned that he had the scrambler completely together and running a few years ago, he disassembled to do a frame off and rust remediation, and then lost interest (he's got two IH scouts, a gen I bronco and a lot of other projects that are taking precedence.)

appreciate all the opinions, keep them coming.

If you do the trade, lots of good info, inspiration, etc., in the cj-8.com forums ( Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler Forums )
