Starter

My starter went out on my CJ7 304. Any suggestions on a new one. I've read a little about the Mean Green starters, but don't know if they're worth it.

Are there any automotive electric shops in your area? You may be able to get you're old one rebuilt. It's not a big job. most small shops like that have gone out of business because now we just throw things away.

Ain't that the truth. People swap them at parts stores and they get shipped to other countries and rebuilt with cheapest parts available.

Anyway, my starter went out several years ago and I tried 2 starters from autozone and neither didn't do well with my engine. But its not stock either. I ended up getting my stock one back and had it rebuilt. That was about 6 yrs ago.

Mean green has a good reputation. I'd try a local shop first. Maybe napa second and if not then I guess mean green is the best option.

Had my stock starter rebuilt, cost $50 for new brushes and new bearings. While I had it at the shop I installed headers and could no longer use the stock starter. I opted for the ProTork starter from Alterstart over the Mean Green simply based on price. I've had the starter in since 2006 without any problems. The ProTork was less then half the price of the Mean Green.

Thanks, I've never heard of that brand, I'll have to check it out. I like the sound of the price!
