Stereo/Speaker mount suggestions for a 73 CJ5

Well our tax refund is here and the wife said i WILL put a stereo in my new Jeep if she is gonna ride in it....i thought to my self, OMG she made a wise decision for 1 time since we have been marriedi am gonna post a pic of my dash it not a good 1 but anyway. OH i dont want a roll bar speaker setup and i dont want speakers in the back seat area, there is not much room as it is. The system does not have to be fancy just am/fm would be ok to me and some speakers. Basically i want my system all in the front area of my rig.

Ah yes...the early jeep dashes. I do love them, but...I feel your pain. Here is what I have in mine. You can may be mount 2, but I went with "Mono" instead of stereo....you can see it is a cb loudspeaker that I mounted up under the center of the dash. Sounds just like a car from the 70's with the old center dash speaker...lol...[IMG][/IMG] In this pic, you can see it right under the radio under the dash.[IMG][/IMG]

I have lots of room from the center of the panel to the right. Maybe a small speaker will fit on the left upper corner and 1 on the right upper corner and a 6x9 maybe in the center and a underdash marine radio in the center as well. I will put better pic up when i go outside.

Ohh...about 3-4 hours. I'm 100 miles from Erie, PA and 18 miles away from the NY border. I live 18 miles from Bradford, PA...so, I'm quite a ways away from the eastern areas. To be honest with you, I don't get east too much. We always are going west into the Pittsburgh and Ohio areas when we take a road trip.

On another note, how is your windshield clamped down to your tub. You can see the clamps in my pics. Just curious to find what holds yours down. You will have to drop your windshield and drive...our style windshield folds down in 2 seconds...you'll love it!!

Hey Jeeper, off subject but what type of top and doors do have on there? Im buying a 76 CJ5 next week. It has a hardtop on it that I'm positive isn't for that particular year. But I really have no clue where to start and I like the top n soft doors you have.

Thanks a lot,

Brian

I have the same soft top-Bestop Supertop for pre-1976 CJ5. They are a little pricey, but decent. Your hardtop is one I have never seen...I would definitely keep it as it looks like it is a one off that is correct for your vintage of CJ5. Pretty cool.

If you are still looking for speaker ideas, I have the rear sound wedges that go between the roll bar/fender in the back. Not sure if they make them for CJ's, but they fit my YJ nice and are hidden...
