Swap?

I have an 87 wrangler yj with a 350 chevy in it.

I have rust issues and just found a 76 cj5 with no motor or trans.

Could I do a swap? Would the Axels fit?

I have a d44 in back 40 in front. And pretty sure the rear is special do to the engine tranny swap. The guy said something bout a spiderbite or something.

Some rust but should be fixable. Nothing too extensive. Mostly just on tub.

If its just surface rust on the frame you'd be better off swaping the body from the cj onto the yj frame. The yj frame is much stronger then the cj's and the yj also has better suspension I think because the leaf springs are wider. The yj and cj tub is identical so it shouldnt be to hard to swap. It would probably be cheaper too.

Why not just swap the tubs and body components? The CJ tub should fit on the YJ frame. You'll have to make body mounts to fit the wider frame.

Just realized that that jeep has no title just bos.

Can I just swap windshields so I have the same vin? Or are windshields different?

Just take your vin off the yj and put it on the cj tub. Then if your asked just say its a front end conversion

You need a cj7 body, not a cj5 tub. They are too short for the wrangler along with being a little wider. You can swap the windshield frames, they should be the same for 76-95.

You could swap em out with some fabbing and make a nice space on the front and back for cargo/winch/tire space. Would be a little interesting. Be like trying a tj tub on a lj frame.

To be honest, swap the engine tranny and axles. Those arent governed by VIN numbers. There are actually around 4 vin numbers on any Jeep. You know the one on the windshield, and there is also one somewhere on the frame along the driver side. I have heard there is one also inside the engine bay. With all the Jeeps getting stolen, It would be safest to just swap engine and tranny. Just get mounts for it and it should all be fine. If you use the same axles, you could probably increase your wheelbase a bit. But in all reality, keeping it LEGAL is the best way to go.

I've been considering looking for a trashed YJ to donate a drivetrain to my DJ for that very reason A YJ stance under a CJ would make for a very nice Jeep IMO.
