Thinking about buying this.. (PICS)

83 jeep wrangler with 133k. It needs a battery and a restoration. What do you guys think. It'd be $600 for this and it would be my first car. I'm looking to fix it up...

Here comes the questions. Does it run? How bad is the rust? where is the rust? what engine does it have? axles? tranny? wiring work? whats missing? how long has it been sitting?

My non-business, dedicated Jeeper side, says, "Hell Yea! $600 Jeep!!". Id say buy it if it runs(Or at-least if its not locked up, unless you plan on completely rebuilding the engine). What Ive learned is that you can use lots of money and do it quickly, or you can use Huge, enormous, copiously vast oceans of painstaking time, and not as much money. hahaha

haha and yeah the rust is awful i would need an entire paint job. The guy said it runs it just needs battery and paint job. I was wondering how I would go about this paint job. I heard they could be as much as $2000 and I don't want to spend that much. I'm also not experienced in cars and would have no clue how to do it myself if it's very difficult.

All depends on what you want for an outcome. Get a book on bodywork and dive in. You will appreciate the outcome so much more when you do some of the work yourself. The more you do yourself, the less you will have to pay someone else. Heck I painted mine army green with spray paint from Ace hardware. I am using the money I would have spent on painting it to to other mods on it . I will then get it painted later.

If the rust is that bad, then youll probably be replacing floorboards and panels etc. Also, you need to get a battery and go drive it.

That looks like a pretty unique hard top on that, I would do my best to restore and keep it.

I had a 72 CJ5 as my first car and loved it. I would say if the funds are availible to you to bring it back to life, go for it!!!
look through the builders pages on this forum to prepair yourself for what youre in for.
