My wrecked CJ is sitting out in a field gathering rust and dust. Hate to see it this way but can't afford to fix it and my other jeep. I would rather keep the CJ and sell the YJ but the YJ actually runs ok and is my daily driver. It's a 1983 REnegade with all the seats. two tuffy boxes., full roll cage, 38.5 tires and of course a lift to allow for them. The frame is straight, the radiator got busted, the rear axle snapped off at the driver back tire hub. the rest is cosmetic. It actually didnt have any rust on it when I wrecked it and everything worked and I was told everything should still work, trans, engine etc. have no idea what to sell it for because I will not part it out. It is in Gentry ARkansas on a farm. My friend has replacement axles for it with lockers already installed for 300 that prolly can go with but they are not mine. I love this thing..but I may be moving to Texas and it is just rusting away......
sorry I am in one of those pesky fly over states aren't I. I may be moving to Texas and just doesn't seem right to leave her rusting away. I had her perfect before I rolled her twice..ugh stupid cell phones
I have no idea. it actually has a clear title even though insurance did total it out. they gave me 4k for it which went directly to the um ticket I got for wrecking it....stupidity at the utmost..had it towed on a flat bed to a field where it sits..was tarped for a year but then the tarp got ruined. guess make an offer... my friend has a winching trailer that we used that typically carries his back-hoe..could prolly talk him into transporting if and only if someone pays expenses (gas etc.)
dude i wouldnt sell that thing. take off that axle, cut the cage off, and pull off all the body panels. you can get rear axles at junk yards. get a D44 or Ford 8.8. slap that on. you can then weld up your own cage homemade. as for the body panels, leave them off. just sand and paint up the frame. if you can do this yourself total it'll be under a grand and a good summer project. you'll have a sweet "trail only" rig to start off with.
do it man. you know you want to. all you REALLY need is an axle. no big deal. i wouldn't send a jeep to the muddy trail in the sky over an axle that probably sucked in the first place.
get yourself a scrapped 8.8 or if you've got some loot, a D60. bam! driveable again
well my friend has axles there that already have lockers on it. the roll cage wasnt damaged nothing but the front clip was damaged actually and the radiator. I know I could get it rolling well under a grand...just broke a$$ right now...sucks butt
ok, you have axles. good. that's the hard part. tell you friend to not get rid of them and save a little. you'll have some change soon enough. then just put them on or have your friend do it.
radiators are cheap, even new. grab one of those and change out all the fluids since it's been hanging out in that field in the weather and you're golden.
one thing i'd do immediately though is get it out of that field. no need to rust out good parts or get water into things that'll give you problems later. also, outlaws might find it and steal parts or the whole thing thinking it's scrapped and forgotten. tow it into a garage or barn, or even just close to a house.
i promise you, if you scrap that you'll regret it. eventually you'll get some $$$ after it's gone and you'll be all "damn! if i only had my Renegade still." i have seen it twice now. people get rid of jeeps, then 6 months down the road they regret it. you've still got a nice Renegade sitting there. she just needs a little TLC. keep it out the weather and she'll be there waiting when you get some extra money.
cool. just tell your bf axles are here, radiator and fluid changes are cheap...bingo. if you go the "trail rig only" route, i wouldnt even bother with the hood and body damage. there's 3 or 4 jeeps near me that are just tubs a frame and engine lol! but even then, sanding up that body and hittin it with primer is cheap and easy too. your jeep isn't as bad as it looks. you know that. i know that. broken axle is NO EXCUSE to scrap a CJ, let alone a rare CJ Renegade.
people crack frames, blow up heads, ruin tubs...crazy expensive repairs. tell your bf in the wild world of jeeps, engines, tubs, and frames are replaceable parts. an axle replacement isn't bad at all. people dont think twice about dropping thousands on a new car if they wreck the old one. jeeps you dont need to. the more you trash a jeep and the longer you have them, the better they get.
worse comes to worse remind him....you're the female. the boss. what you say GOES. that's what my girlfriend tells me
ha ha ha yeah he is getting it..he is pricing trading in his mustang for a jeep. he cant believe the resale price on jeeps...I tried to tell him... he doesnt believe I can get 2500 out of my yj...I said it runs, the 4x4 works, has a top...and looks good..just has issues..ha ha oh well....takes a jeeper to know one
non jeepers are funny like that. they don't understand the "everything is replaceable" concept, and the fact that jeeps are unique and in high demand used. it's not uncommon to see the 4.0 engine hit 200k without any special care or mods. cars you crack frames and grenade axles...totaled. sell your car, you get nothing. jeeps. no way. they are worth fixing.
your YJ i bet you could pull more than 2500. it looks great. you could spend 300 on a lift for it, spend 700 on 33" tires, and like 150 bucks on some daylighters and somebody WILL pay like 5 or 6 grand for it because it's modded up a bit and looks good. it's crazy.
ha ha no mine is a keeper (BF) that is. I need the cash to fix the YJ..it is limping along and needing some cash put in it or it will be broken as well.. I would rather fix the CJ but it is too big to be a daily driver or I would in a heart beat
I understand I just saw your avatar on another post and thought how cool your cj was then to see it smashed was a bummer.good luck .i would have loved to have it but i just sold a 97 sahara and used the cash for my 2000 tj. hope you find a good home for it
