WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR? - about to buy a CJ5

About to buy a CJ5. Currently own an '01 XJ and Dad used to have a 2000 TJ Wrangler. What should I look (out) for and questions I should ask? Thanks in advance. Here's the link: 1975 CJ5 JEEP!! Must See!!

Checkin it out tomorrow bright and early.

Also, wipers aren't working
Driving lights aren't working, claims I just need to replace switch.
Hazards aren't working, says he knows how to fix

Look for rust in the frame, body mounts, under the carpets(mats) slop in the steering, slop in spring in shackle bushings. Cracks around steering box mount. The pictures make it look pretty good! Good luck

It's definitely got some chipped paint, but other than that, looks pretty good for a mostly original 1975. Thanks for the input.

As stated rust is the big one. don't just look at the frame, but hit/tap the metal to make sure its solid. Take a magnet to check other body panels for metal or bondo...

Early CJ5.net > Forums. This site is pretty good, but their tech library seems to have gotten lost when they recently switched from from .com to .org. Hopefully, it will come back up.
This might be a pretty nice Jeep or something with issues that someone did a quick spruce up on to flip. Hard to exactly describe what to look for (other than the obvious). Too bad these are getting scarce and you can't compare several to get a feel for what looks right and what may be suspect. The inside of the tool box under the passenger seat is probably the easiest area to check for repairs or bad patching as it's particularly vulnerable to moisture and wear and tear. Sometimes they're gone altogether. Sorry, I guess that really didn't help much for this particular Jeep. Good luck.

This.

Use of diamond plate also seems to be a common way to mask rust. I miss my CJ5!
