winch plate

I just bought a Warn xd9000i and I am looking for a relatively inexpensive winch plate for it. Any good recommendations?

I'm running a warn plate. It was around $120.

I think harbor freight sells them but don't know about quality, price or fitment.

There are a few things that work well even if they are cheap and poorly made, a winch plate is not one of them. Spend the money and get a winch plate designed for your Jeep and designed for your winch. Save your money somewhere else....like on a paint job. A bad paint job won't hurt anyone, but a failed winch plate may well kill some one.

I fully intend on buying a plate designed for my Jeep and winch, I was mainly asking what company/brand out there is the most competitively priced but still the proper one. I have owned Jeeps and winched previously and understand the importance of a proper winch set up as well as the consequences of an improper set up.

Engo makes one for about 50. Smitty does too and so does q tec. All cheaper. Only issue I have with the engo I have is the lead edge runs on the cable sometimes.

No i haven't progressed that far yet. What would you say 1/2? More? less? Im gona have someone fab it for me but he has welded for many many years so its not like a half a$$ job. Last thing i want is the winch coming off and flying like a missile.

All you need is flat steel prob 3/8th with holes for the winch (4) and holes to mount (6). It's easy.

Most plates have a small bend at the front for strength but I don't know how important it is. If you would use 1/2 inch I wouldn't be worrying at all. Get good steel too.

I have a Warn Winch with a Rugged Ridge plate and it's solid, strong and fits good. no problems at all with it, either in the install or after use.

I also appreciate everyone's input. Fortunately for me, my wife got tired of hearing me talk about it so she went on JC Whitney today and bought the Warn plate for me. She's a keeper.
