YJ Springs on a CJ?

I have heard people putting YJ springs on CJs and am curious, are they the same length? Is it just a matter of being wider? Is it a good idea?

Same length, but wider. I have a rubicon express lift with YJ demension springs. Works great.

CJ and YJ springs are the same in the rear. The difference is in the front. YJ front springs are the same size as the rear (2.5") versus a CJ being 2". YJ springs are also 1" longer than CJ front springs.

For them to fit you need to move the spring perch 1 hole forward in the frame. Use different shackles and different ubolt brackets.

Some of the benefits are ride since they are wider and longer and larger spring brand selection. For example I am running YJ old man emu springs on my '76 CJ7.

Dempsey, thanks for the good info. I didn't realize the YJ front springs were an inch longer. Good to know!

Got it. Thanks for the info. I am in the middle of a shackle reverse on my CJ7 and thought about doing it. Nows the time and it sounds like the right call.
Thanks again Guys!

So if you do the swap can you buy the complete suspension system for a YJ or do you just buy the springs?? I know about the shackles and all that was just curious about the shocks.

I ordered mine in many parts since I was particular in what I ordered. They make kits for converting cj to yj springs.

You have to run cj shocks. As far as I know yj shocks are different. I think some shocks require bushings or sleeves.

Aolt of people take stock Yj springs and run them sprung over on Cj's. The YJ springs are flater and Flex alot better then CJ springs.
