Does anyone have any experience with the the Gillespie Coatings,Inc Military paint? I'm repainting my YJ with the 30118 Field Drab and want to know what primer, if any, to use over the old paint.

The old paint is a bright blue so I don't want to have it show through the new color. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

The Gillespie product is fantastic. I used their #33070 Lusterless WWII 1941-1945. The color was flat black in very good condition when I bought my jeep so I just scuffed it and sprayed. I couldn't be happier with the finished product. I highly recommend Gillespie.

Generally the only time you need primer is if you are painting on bare metal. If all you are doing is painting over old paint, you can do like 87FloridaYJ did and scuff up the old paint and apply a coat over it.
If you do decide you want/need primer, most anything will do but the original for military vehicles was Red Oxide zinc primer.

I'm not familiar with the 30118 shade but I am using 33070 for my Willys restoration. There is a place in Pennsylvania called Army Jeep Parts that have quite a selection of Gillespie paint.
