I have a star on my hood and it looks like the common one available, with the circle around it. Anyway, it looks too small so I'm looking to replace it with a star with no circle and just as large, if not larger than the one on the first page of the thread. Anyone know about the size I need?
Well, if you are going with historical accuracy, the Jeeps that rolled off the assembly line in WWII had a 15-inch star on the hood. From 1943 - 1945, the Army painted a white circle around them once it was delivered to the field, increasing the diameter to 20-inches. You may want to cut out a few rough stars from pieces of paper and set them in place to see what looks best for you.
There are a couple of places I'd recommend:
Military Stencils has the 15" stars for $11.50 each and the 20" ones for $ 20.00 Military Graphics has the 15" stars for $19.00 each and the 20" ones for $24.00
They are both right here in the US of A and the prices I listed don't include shipping.
Ive been trying to decide what to do to mine since i got it almost 2 yrs ago. Im torn between desert tan and od green. Then there is the color/size/location of decals/stencils. So many choices. I guess i need more jeeps so i can do all of my ideas. 87 Florida i like yours alot. Either way its going to be my own blend of authentic military and my own personality. Next step is to platidip the wheels black
Su guys, I want to put one of those army star decals in my front doors. But I want the distressed version of it. I see the recommended size is 16 inch. I want a good quality one so I went to Quadratec and they have a 19 inch. I don't have my jeep with me at the moment so I cannot measure. Would 19 inch look good in my front door? ANy idea where I can find a 16 inch, distressed, good quality decal?
[i have pixeldecals us flag on the side of mine and they have held up well for 8 months even textured paint. If i dont use stencils they will be the company i use to get stars and bumper numbers for mine.
Father in laws rig he trusts in my hands for safekeeping. Ive put a couple hundred miles on it. Runs 55 flat out but gets hot doing it for very long (and leaks oil everywhere).
55 M-37 behind it in similar condition. Both turn-key drivers. Amateur but reasonably authentic restored.
I'm a little weird about stars on my Jeep. I don't want to offend anyone and don't want to give the impression I was in the military. I think to many stars on a Jeep says, I am in the military, I was in the military, I want to be in the military, or, I'm just in love with the military.I am none of these so I tried to just respect them by adding just one star, and not a military style either. But that's just me !

I would like to put some stars etc. on my Sarge colored Anniversary Jeep Wrangler but would like them to come off weekly so I could go to work without people thinking I'm going to war. Magnetic would be the answer! Maybe a 20 inch magnetic star for the doors.
Anyone see magnetics offered? Thanks Ron

Mine came with stars (Oscar Mike) and I'm actually contemplating taking them off. Even though I was in the military I just don't like the military look. I just wanted all the Oscar mike bells and whistles! At first I absolutely hated them but they've kind of grown on me and I feel like they kind of set my jeep apart from all the other stock JKs on the road.. I just worry about longevity of the decals and if the paint will look different underneath it when they do come off.
Thats why I was thinking magnetic removable. I had a Wrangler and put NY YANKEE magnetic stickers on the doors but after 2 years the Magnetics didn't want to come off. Had to sell the Jeep with the magnetic stick ons. Don't know why they bonded. They came with a warning about leaving them on but I didn't listen. They said remove daily or maybe weekly, I guess for air. Decals would be a similar problem because the paint will fade in some areas like hood. They say they can be removed with heat as time goes on but the fade is in question.
I thought magnetics when needed and nothing when wanted nothing would be cool. Removing magnetics at least weekly.
