Ya, Operation Market Garden has been largely forgotten over here. Even though it was the largest paradrop in history to that point, things didn't go as planned.
Back in 1994, I had the privilege of participating in a 50th anniversary commemorative jump in honor of these gentlemen and we were able to meet a few of them afterwards. It was an incredible opportunity.
You were on the jump across the pond. We sent guys that made that jump.
My jump was at Ft Bragg. They made us honorary members of the 173rd. That's before it was reactivated.
I'll always remember the time the Jumpmaster pulled me back from the door on a red light and when I looked over to the Safety and the Loadmaster, the Loadmaster yelled out "go for it!" .. and I did. hahahaha...
