Some initial mods for Project Danger Close! Hoping to draw a few more Commando owners out of hiding!

Mr. McGyver with the fabs. Jerry Can Fridge all stealth like. I like it! How did you manage the shifter and Air tank?

I haven't fabbed anything, just color matched the trim to the armor.

Then there's this:

You can pick up the hitch cover in Green or Tan from jproarms.com by searching Hitch Cover. If you get the Tan one, the listing is backwards. The one with black lettering is the more expensive of the two.

The fabrication stuff actually wasn't too bad. The fuse shifter is actually a real artillery fuse (inert), just viced it and drilled progressive holes in the bottom until it matched the diameter of the shifter and more or less forced it on, it's VERY tightly stuck on. The air tank was pretty simple too, just a 2.5 gallon tank from Smittybilt and some aluminum vent components from Home Depot that I doctored up with a cutoff tool and Dremel to get some of the look right and then taping/stenciling/spraying. Honestly running the lines from the ARB compressor under the hood all the way back to the rear tank and then from the tank to the rear bumper quick disconnect I ran through the jack bolt hole mounts in the Smittybilt bumper took MUCH longer. Last, but not least, the water/fuel can bar took a minute to figure out how to make everything fit but will be REALLY easy to duplicate in the future if I feel like doing it again. Luckily, being in the Army it's pretty easy to get my hands on excess equipment that units aren't using any more to use for modifications. I should be picking up an actual jerry can mount for the bar (so it doesn't just sit in the trunk but can actually be mounted) as well as some unused tan camo netting that I am tempted to convert into a new bikini top/awning for camping and the beach. Like I've said in the past I can't leave well enough alone lol. Now if I could only find some howitzer lanyards to replace my Oh $hit handles I'll be set.

Very cool. I've been out for almost 12 years now... so I'd have to go to a surplus to pick any of that stuff up.

Yup, I've been scouring the ones around here but so far haven't found the kind of gear I want. Tons of old infantry stuff, just not a ton of artillery lol. The gun bunnies always do tend to hoard their equipment...

Got the hood stickers changed. Haven't fully committed to them yet but they are growing on me pretty quickly lol.

Danger close to the hood latch and the back edge... but looks good. Especially in black.

Looks like fun! Just got down to Louisiana so I'm looking for the local jeep club. Also saw another Commando in town the other day!
