Previously I posted about the Hafner Flying Jeep. Now, I've run across a seagoing amphibious Jeep, the Ford GPA based on the Ford GPW.
Another of our members, 1SAS, posted photographs of one at the 2012 Military Vehicle Preservation Association.
Based on the Ford GPW, more than 12,000 were built between September 1942 and June 1943. They were easily sunk by waves and proved too heavy and cumbersome on dry land. However they saw success in the amphibious invasion of Sicily in September 1943 and in river crossings. They also saw action in other campaigns and were used by allies. Most ended up being given to Russia in a Lend-Lease program.
The faithful Jeep was dauntless, whether by sea, air or land.
