Just curious really. Not that I would buy something like that at this point in my life. Maybe in another 20 or 30 years. One of these days I will have me and old CJ or Willys.
Several years ago I bought one in Texas at an estate sale, rented a Uhaul car trailer and brought it home. Took me all summer to resto it, but finally sold it. Look in my Jeep profile to see it. Only 50 HP. It was fun around town but kept breaking down and I'd have to go get my truck and tow it back. Sanded it all down to bare metal and discovered the original hood numbers.
As one might guess there is a Military Vehicle Preservation Assoc. and they have meet ups/shows all over the place. They also have links on their site for materials used to resto' these old war horses. The machine gun mounted on that one has, obviously, been demilled so its legal to have but you would get a bit of attention from the local PD. Tons of ways to spend money and time on these things. Kinda wish I had not sold mine but I was always having to tow and repair.
The Jeep I drove in Nam was a bit later model but basically the same. The ARVN's got the new CJ's...grrrr. I'd have to go to the VN junkyard to get parts....true story
Prices are not as bad as you might think. I had a frame-off professionally restored M38A1 with M100 trailer, dummy 50 cal MG, set of radios, and lots of extra stuff that I sold last year for $14,500. It was a beauty and ran like a top.
The WWII Jeeps do run more and might bring the $25K mentioned but the M38 series (Korean War vintage) are considerably less expensive.
Found this Gem and made a bid on it today. M38A1. I haven't researched the numbers or branch of service yet.. I am praying it is U.S.M.C. issue though. Not that it matters, I just want it to be. It will be a project for me and my stepdad. We were both are Marines..
Cool find, looking forward to the progress :thunb:
