Hello all. I've spent a lot of time reading and learning from this forum, but haven't felt like I had anything to contribute until now. I have a new JKUR and I've been looking for something to personalize it a little. I'm not a big sticker guy, so I had been looking at hitch covers or spare tire covers. I was a submariner for 8 years and I thought it would be cool to have my "silver dolphins" (enlisted submarine warfare qualification pin) represented somewhere on the Jeep. I found a few ultra-cheap plastic oval hitch covers and a few really shouty spare tire covers, but nothing that seemed to be high quality enough or tasteful enough.
Then I stumbled on a company in Camarillo CA that makes exactly what I had been looking for- it's an exact replica in a larger size of my silver dolphins pin, fitted to a 2" receiver plug. I ordered one online and had it in 2 days. I am kind of picky about the quality of accessories and stuff, and I was really impressed with this piece. It's cast in stainless steel (in the USA, worth noting), hand polished, and comes with hardware, etc.
I don't have any personal connection to this company and I don't want to break any forum rules by posting a link, but you can find them at heavy-metal-accessories dot com. (mods, if this can or should be a link, let me know and I'll fix it). They have all kinds of different ones specific to each branch... gold wings, parachutes, whatever. For what it's worth, they seem like a very nice small business making a really high quality product here in California- seemed like the kind of info that someone on this forum might appreciate! Ok, now for the pics:
