Opinion on military decals.

I have a rugged brown pearl 13 jku sahara with body color top. I really like the look of the military decal sets. I want opinions on putting these on my brown jeep.

As long as you do PT at 0630 every morning and keep your hair short, I say go for it.

My opinion is that you have a classy rig, and while military decals might look cool on a commando green sport, it takes away from your Sahara.

If you, or someone you know, are good at Photoshop, preview it and see what you think.

However, this really wouldn't be enough. I would need to make my fiance put on a road guard vest and kevlar and walk in front of me as a ground guide any time I drove around the neighborhood. As it turned out, this was not that popular of an idea in my household? What can I say. Girls are weird.

LMAO.

Yeah I'm Army. PT is at 0630 at every duty station I've been to except FT Huachuca, where they've staggered some of the units by half an hour (I PT at 0600) so that the gates don't get overwhelmed.

Every duty station I've been to that had Marines at it, they PT'd at the same time as us.

On Topic:

I vote no. I see lots of guys on post with decal'd up Jeeps and honestly, if the Jeep is owned by a service member, it kind of comes off as overly hoo-ah and if you're not military then it seems tacky, like slapping Type-R stickers on your base Honda Civic....

Anyway, commando Green is a sweet color. If only Jeep offered CARC as an option. You could always make a stencil and plastidip it on there. That way if you decide against it later, you can peel it off ? And yes, still in

Correct. Unless it's a personally owned M35... Or you have a flat or carc paintjob. The shiney paint kinda defeats the purpose of trying to make it look like/resemble a mv.

Riding motorcycles as well we have an expression that sort of fits here which is, "You ride your own ride". That said you could get all the military stickers and stenciling your Jeep could sustain and I would respect that. A lot worse stuff could be put on a Jeep. OTOH I have a Vietnam Veteran sticker, some Wings and Retired Army stickers and that is about it. The Jeep on to itself speaks volumes whereas the stickers tell a part of my story. Just saying...

Completely agree. Call me old school, but if you have not served, using decals should not even be considered. Nothing against those who have not served, however. It's a personal choice. Well, not for me as I was drafted in '69.

To be honest, I sometimes feel like a nerd with my Freedom edition stars. I just wonder if some people thinks it's military-wannabe when in reality I bought it like that because I like the toy/fun look.

So it comes down to caring what others think versus caring what yourself thinks.

Since my stars are still there, i'd say caring what I think has won out.

So get your damn emblems already.

You asked for opinions. Mine is that decals make any vehicle look tacky. But if you like it that is all that matters.

Now THAT is very cool! Take it down to it's essence, strip it, paint it a flat matte color and have fun!

Hey marine ... it is spelled S-I-R!!!

Just giving you grief. I have the utmost respect for the Marine Corps. I thought the other guy's post was a little douchey so I went after him. I meant no offense to the Corps.

Im a retired Marine and we typically started at 0630. When I was at DI school (91) at Parris Island it was at 0500. That was the earliest I ever started PT.

Re: my Army friends above - yeah I got out in 99, but PT was definitely at 6:30 and the Marines on base weren't at it any sooner than we were.

As for military stickers, I dunno. I mean it's your call. For me, the Jeep's heritage as a military vehicle really doesn't mean much to me. If I had an actual service Jeep, it would be different. And, not to get too political, but after the bailout I have a lot different feelings about Chrysler and GM, I hardly feel like a "patriot" buying one of their vehicles.

That said, my feelings obviously didn't stop me - the Wrangler is a unique vehicle, it has no real competition, and I am very happy I bought one. But I bought it for what it is, not for what it was or what it represents.

But for you? Who are we to say? If the Jeep's military heritage is important to you and you want to demonstrate that in some way, by all means go for it. After all, that is what our country and our military are all about.

Fort Drum starts PT at 0700, way to cold to be rucking or running or both before 0700. Everywhere else I've been it started at 0630.

I think some subdued American flags would look alright. Or you could get the window decal with a front sight post and says "This is my peace sign".

Im assuming the stickers referred to are the big Star that many are putting on the Jeep?? If you are talking about unit stickers etc, I look at it this way. My Jeep is my Jeep and I really couldnt give a rats a$$ as to what others think when they see me driving. If I like it thats all that matters.

I think a traditional Army star would look better. I saw a guy with an Army star on a Toyota "Jeep" BJ. Later found out that Toyota was asked to reverse engineer the Bantam GP for the US military in Korea (hence the reason the FJ's font end looks similar to a Wrangler, keeping the tradition). Moral of the story, do whatever it is you want. And maybe you can school someone up on the history of your rig. That was the reason behind the guy putting the star on the Yota.

If you are active and do it, you look too motivated. If you have not served and do it, you are a poser. If you are a veteran, GO FOR IT!
