what do you think of Dune as military build color

Just curious, when I saw a Dune Jeep for the first time all I could think was Desert Storm. I ended up getting one later for a different reason. Been thinking of doing a semi military build after owning it because ever since I got this one, it screams military to me. Maybe a bit bright, but close. My idea of MOLLE hangers in my Jeep has even changed from my last Jeep. To me for some reason these seem to fit.

I have got the worst kind of comments on Dune. From people seeing it as mustard or even just Yellow.

LOL Am I crazy, or can you see Dune as a military build color as well?

To me the Dune color on the JKs looks like caramel in the sunlight. Not military to my way of thinking. But my years in the Army were under Reagan, so military stuff for me will always center on the "Woodland Camouflage Pattern" of our BDUs and not the sand colors since 1991.

Keep in mind that the Jeep was phased out when I first got into the Army. In the summer of 1985 we had Jeeps and HMMWVs on post at the same time. As far as I know, we never actually had sand colored jeeps save in Africa in WWII. All the rest were green (or gray in the Navy). The current use of sand desert colors came about AFTER we invaded Iraq. We still had a LOT of dark green and OD gear and vehicles at that time in country.

Not that this matters in the least. I am just rambling. Happy new year to all!

Happy New Year to you too!

The first time I personally saw a desert camo Jeep was in the early to mid '80s. The Air Force started pre-positioning equipment in the gulf country of Oman during the Iran-Iraq war. They were pulled out of "moth balls" for Operation Desert Shield.

During WWII the British Army used Jeeps in North Africa sold to them as part of the Lend-Lease program. Additionally, the US used tan colored Jeeps in both North Africa and the Middle East (I'm not sure but I think the took some to Sicilly too). I found some pictures, I'm not sure of the dates or location but you get the idea.

Nice. Definitely NOT Dune. Again, to me, in direct sunlight, standing right next to it the color looks sort of like caramel, but lighter, a type of tan, and not the sand color of the old MBs or GPWs in your photos.

Great shots, by the way. I knew about that color scheme in Africa. I did not know about them in Italy or the Middle East.

I got Dune; I think it'll look rugged as hell with some black accents. It's definitely more yellow than tan, though. I think it looks more like a piece of heavy duty construction equipment than it does a military truck... though after looking at the new Willys Wheeler in Dune, I definitely feel it's more military now than I did before.

I recently painted mine. I used 6 cans of rustoleum flat series deep forest green. #1919 and when i came to the shop, i was asked by the guys in the service section if i used CARC paint. It looks uncanny like a flat green WW2 willys. I love it.

I have a Dune JKUR and thinking about picking up a M1102 (M1101) trailer with cover. Does anyone know how the military painted desert sand color looks with the wrangler dune? I have found a nice green camo one for sale, however not sure if I should wait around to find a desert/sand color one. They might not look "right" together. Thoughts?? Thanks
