Willys fuel tank

Found a Willys fuel tank genuine from a ww2 army willys. Got it for a decent price, not sure what to do with it as I have a TJ and no space. Good find or really common?

Good find.

They are usually referred to as Jerry Cans (or Gerry Cans) and go for some good money if in good condition.

New ones that conform to DOT standards sell for around $50. Original ones go for $50 - $200 on e-bay depending on the condition.

A little trivia: The original design was from Germany in the 1930s. America copied the design in the 1940s and the slang term for German solders in WWII were "Jerrys" hence "Jerry cans".

Cool thanks, would a sand blast and olive paint job de-value it?

The one you have might sell for more with the intact od on it, even in that condition.

If it has a gasket in good shape, even better, and if the inside is good enough to hold fuel, even even better.
