I wanted to create a site that makes it easy for me to host and save pictures of my own. I wrote jeepparking.com. Thought I'd put it out there if any of you guys want to use it as well.

It's still a work in progress. I don't have a large budget or anything, so I designed it myself. A friend is going to help me by redesigning the layout. Let me know what you think.

I've added a bunch of new stuff over the past couple weeks.

Album Slideshows
When you create an album, all you have to do is click on the 'Album Slideshow' button and you can sit back and watch the pictures scroll by. Here's an example of a member's album.

Picture Browsing, Tagging and Searching
Want to just browse through the different pictures we have? Of course you do, that's the whole point of the site. We added in more support for this by letting you search. Pictures can be tagged with keywords. These keywords can include the type of jeep they are, mods they have or even the color. You can search with these keywords here or just browse around.

Easier Registration
We cut back registration so you only need a username and password. Don't even need to give us your email. We realize some people are uncomfortable giving that out and we don't really need it. You can always change your mind in your account settings.

Faster Response Times
In an effort of continuous improvement, we've greatly increased how fast the site comes up and pictures load. Some sites will show the same picture just resized all over the place, causing you to waste bandwidth and time as you load the entire picture. We are resizing the picture and creating thumbnails on our end for each different use (profile, album cover, etc.) so we dont waste our and your bandwidth. We are also switching over to Amazon S3 for the image hosting portion. This will be transparent to you guys, but it will be much faster on the backend.

So try us out and let me know what you think.

So some cool updates have been made. First off, we now have a twitter feed at https://twitter.com/jeepparking. I'll be posting random pictures that we have uploaded that I really like.

We've also completely switched over to Amazon S3 for all of our image hosting. That'll make the site load faster and be more reliable since we are using Amazon's back end for all image services (it'll also hopefully lower my bandwidth bill!). Next big step will be to switch to EC2 for web hosting so we can scale the website as demand grows.

I've had a couple people ask me questions about development and I thought it'd be neat to talk a little more technical about my progress, so I started a development blog here: JeepParking.com It'll be more technical updates that talk about where I'm going with the site.

I've also started work on our Android app. I'll release more updates about that as I get closer.

Lastly, we have a new design in progress (made by an actual designer) and a new logo! You can get a preview of the new logo on our twitter page. I am not a graphic designer at all, so it's nice to have someone actually create something that looks good.

Traffic has been picking up and people have been using the site which is awesome. I'm working on ways to make it even more easier to use the site. One of these I recently did was change the layout of the site. I was hoping for a layout from an actual graphic designer, but that fell through so I tried to make some changes myself. I know it's not super pretty but I think it's a lot easier to navigate around now.

I'm working on setting up an automated twitter feed that will, once a day, post a random picture that's been uploaded. It'll be neat to see member's vehicles pop up on our twitter feed and shared out.

Besides that, just some stability updates and working on the Android app.
