08-JKU Tonka Build

After lurking the forums for a couple months, I thought I should go ahead and start a build thread. I've already done a few things, but have soooooooo much more to do.

Here it is fresh from the dealer:

-----------------------------------

First I put the Teraflex 2.5" Coil Lift with shock extension brackets.

Before:

After:

-----------------------------------

Plastidipped the stock wheels until I get around to replacing them.

-----------------------------------

Then mounted my T-Max 48" jack to the hood, plastidipped and added gutter guard screen (painted yellow) to the grill.

That's it so far.

Next up is bumpers, sliders, seat covers, and a CO2 tank.

Added a set of Rough Country quick disconnect sway bar links that I found a deal on. The install was super easy, except the brackets for mounting them while disconnected. I couldn't find a suitable seating where they would swing up and install at the same length as they are when connected. Not a big deal, but was kind of annoying.

Will be trying them out on some trails Monday!

50" LED Light Bar

I opted for the cheap light bar, because I couldn't afford the Rigid stuff. I'm sure it's better, but for now this one will do. I also went with the Rough Country windshield mounts.

The mounts were a little tricky to get on. I particularly had problems with the bottom inside bolt. It wasn't long enough, so i had to remove the washer to get it to grab and tighten.

The Mautotuning light bar is decent, but it's longer than it states. I think it's more like 52" so it was tight mounting it, but it did fit. You can sort of see the gap from the mounting bracket being pushed out.

I went to Lowes and replaced the hex-key bolts that hold the light bar to the mounting brackets and used an extra washer to get a better hold on the light bar. since there was the gap.

From a distance you can't really tell there is a gap.

Overall, I'm happy with it. It's bright on the trails and it's solid. I did have to do the foam trick to get rid of the whistling, which is really more of a harmonic horror film sound.
