An astonishing 31km on the Jeep!

20130622_8276 by erbabi2002, on Flickr

I ended up travelling 1080km to take delivery. During this time, the city of Calgary was in a state of emergency with flooding. I'm glad the dealership I purchased from was unaffected by the flooding. The drive back/ break-in was great. No issues on the way home other than one minor accident with a bird:

My goal for my build is simple; to have a capable over-landing rig that is able to support my photography addiction! As I learn more and finalize my upgrade plans, I will share them here on this page. I will also update this page with jeep photography and photos from the offloading events I attend.

I finally had a chance to test out some of the Rubicon's capabilities and I can report that I was amazed at how well it handled everything that I put in front of it! My first outing was a stock-friendly run with some beautiful views.

Here is a video:

We had some entertainment from a local biker hitting the same trails:

The jeep crew was friendly which led me to joining their club shortly after.

20130721_4664 by erbabi2002, on Flickr

The drive back was interesting and had a few interesting photo-opportunities so I had to stop!

My first batch of 'upgrades' were mostly cosmetic. I started by purchasing a custom Jeep receipt binder to track my spending. I customized the binder with photo's of my Jeep on Zazzle dot ca.

20131229_9733 by erbabi2002, on Flickr

My next 'upgrade' included a custom license plate for the jeep and some anti theft license plate bolts. I followed that up with some custom jeep club decals for the side.

20130816_7890 copy by erbabi2002, on Flickr

Next up was a Hard Top Saver Kit from Dominion Offroad. My previous 2008 Rescue Green JK had developed stress cracks on the hard top so I purchased this kit in hopes to prevent the issue from occurring on the new jeep.

20131228_9735 by erbabi2002, on Flickr

Modifications and Parts purchased thus far + Warrantee issues:
• 3m paint protective coating
• Undercoating
• Krown Rust Proofing
• Custom license plate and anti theft bolts
• Anvil touch up paint
• Dominion Offroad Hard Top Saver Kit
• Custom jeep club decals
• 303 Aerospace protectant
• Fluid Film
• Synthetic Oil Change switch at 3307km
• JW Speaker 8700 Evo Headlights
• Mopar Hood Lock Kit
• Spitfire Speed and Offroad rock rail trim
• AEV Procal
• Replaced Blower Motor due to noise at 6679km
• Replaced door seal trim due to leaking seal at 3307km

One of the best highway drives I've ever done!

20131127_9726 by erbabi2002, on Flickr

20131127_9592 by erbabi2002, on Flickr

The first costly mod I wanted to tackle were the sub par factory headlights. I do a lot of nighttime driving in the north and moose are a concern. I decided to purchase the JW Speaker 8700 Evo headlights to improve the light output. I can not say enough about how well these lights work! I'll let my pictures demonstrate:

My first run-in with another 10A owner! Great 'Jeeps and Coffee' meeting:

It has been freezing here lately, the lights have had no issue with the -40*C temperatures. I haven't had any major concern with ice build up on the lenses at this time either. Only issue I have is the notorious headlight flicker and I'm currently debating which anti flicker harness to purchase. I just installed AEV procal and interestingly enough, it temporarily stopped the flicker in the lights for the first day but the flicker came back. AEV procal allowed me to run appropriate air pressure in the winter time without having the low tire warning.

20131229_9731 by erbabi2002, on Flickr

Additionally, I had the Mopar hood-lock installed as a theft deterrent.

I also stopped by a local shop and had the rock-rails trimmed to allow for a little more room to run larger tires.

Funny to see your pic of the bird hit carnage... I hit a bird in Dec with my 10A in the same spot. I actually should say it hit me flew into the side of my hood denting it then hit my rigid light mounted on the lower part of windshield and shattered the windshield... It was a pheasant which was better then hitting the turkey I hit a few years ago LOL
Anyway great pics! Nice 10A!

Looks good but I think a receipt binder to track your spending is a bad idea some things are better left unknown.

I was lucky that no damage was done to the windshield. Scared the shit out of me on the second day of ownership LOL.

Yeah, doesn't take much to spend a grand and it's painful to see. I'd love to see you complete a build thread - I'm liking the mods you've done to yours!

It has been absolutely freezing here up north but I can report that the jeep has started without issue (using the engine block heater).

I'm torn between 35's with ~2 inches of lift and 37's with 3.5.

Dude, you're HDR happy. I love it! Great photos and a nice Jeep. $50K for a Wrangler? What is this world coming to?

Ordered this:
Rubicon Anniversary – HMC BILLETRubicon Anniversary – HMC BILLET

I'm planning on painting the "10th" section red so that it'll look exactly like what Bill has done here:

Really like the mods you are doing, and am enjoying this build thread with the great pictures, as it's the same color as what I've ordered, with a similar intended use.

On the 35" or 37" question, I really struggled with this. Once I got my ego in check, my thought is 35" over 37" for an exploration rig. The added cost, wear and tear, and reduction in fuel economy, just didn't make sense for me.

There is a good YouTube video by Teraflex, that talks about the different tire sizes. It's a bit sophomoric, but the basics are there. Might be worth a watch.

No matter which way you go, your R-A build is really coming along awesome.

I've watched that video too but have recently been catching up on Wayalife youtube videos which has me wanting 37's.

I'm torn between:

A) ORE bolt on coilover setup (with bolt on long arm kit), Artec truss or Teraflex 44, 37" Nitto tires, and 17" ATX slabs.

Vs.

B) 2.5" AEV lift, 35" Nitto tires, and 17" AEV Pintler beadlocks.

Giant Trance 27.5 1 and a hidden hitch bike rack! I'm loving the bike thus far! The bike killed some of this year's jeep budget but this is a slow build after all. I've yet to decide what suspension set-up would best meet my needs which is really holding me up. I've also added the Metalcloak Gamechanger 6Pak lift and the AEV 3.5 DualSport RS lift to the possibility list.

Also, I purchased a hitch cover for when the bike rack is not being used and built a hardtop carrier. I'll include more photo's of the carrier once it is completed.
