2013 Hemi JK Build

Being as we have a brand new forum, I'm going to start a thread on my 2013 JK build. This is my fifth JK, and for this one I wanted to focus on performance and handling. I want this Jeep to function as both a daily driver and a vehicle for exploring the southwest USA on weekends. And I want it to be capable as well as a whole lot of fun to drive.

I ordered a 2013 JK Unlimited Rubicon on March 17th. It had the usual Rubicon features like power windows, air conditioning, navigation, and leather seats.

6/17/13 AEV begins there conversion process, and will install a 3.5" lift, 35" tires, AEV wheels, and a 6.4 Hemi

Stage 1 will be: engine, suspension, tires & wheels, heat reduction hood
Stage 2 will be: bumpers, winch, spare tire carrier, communication (CB radio)
Stage 3 will be: axle improvements

Here are some pictures from the work at AEV.

Here are a couple of pictures from the Mojave desert a few weeks ago. This first picture shows the Expedition One Trail Series aluminum rear bumper and the Teraflex rear tire carrier I have added. In the picture I'm using the 6.4 Hemi to move a little sand around.

This picture shows the LOD Mid-Width front bumper and the Warn 9.5 CTI-s winch that I added.

Wow, nice! The 6.4 liter engine must be a big bump in performance. I love how the shell of the Wrangler just lifts off the chassis.

With the engine swap, does everything still work? Like Cruise? Any engine codes or any problems?

Thanks

Yes, everything still works, including, unfortunately, the traction control system. I had a check engine light come on once while driving to work. I drive right past the Jeep dealer on the way to work, so I stopped by and dropped it off. They did a DTC audit with their Y Tech tool and found a code that said the ambient temperature sensor was faulty. When they checked it manually the sensor was saying it was 5 degrees in their shop, when it was really 65 degrees. The ambient temperature sensor is an OEM part, so they replaced it under the factory warranty. I haven't had any problems since.

I heard that in the past AEV required the customer to supply the Hemi, and not just any Hemi. The most important part was to find one from the old Durango, which had a functional and compatible computer. I don't know how true that was and if they found a source of computers. In the build's pictures, computer is a flat aluminum slab-like item between the washer the brake master.

I'm with everyone else... I don't want a quote, just an estimate what you put into her.

BTW - LOVE IT!

Did they reuse your transmission or did you have to replace it with another unit? And what happened with your original engine?

Intrest as well

I would be interested in knowing the end results as well. I am looking at the same item for my 2014 Rubicon in Anvil. I have 1495 miles on it. I came from an Audi S4 to this. Quatro is good but this is better.

The original transmission is retained, but with SRT8 internal parts. The mods I made to the Jeep have effectively doubled its price.

AEV supplies the Hemi and the computer. The Hemi is a new crate engine. You can see it, ready to go in, in this picture.

That was my first thought when I saw that picture as well. Apparently they were real careful about it though, because it wasn't scratched.

It doesn't include the front drive gear, intake, exhaust, computer, radiator, transmission, or installation cost. You also need to add up the cost of the suspension with Bilstein reservoir shocks, five tires and wheels, the heat reduction hood that is painted and installed. And then add in what has been done after AEV finished, including the Teraflex tailgate hinge and tire carrier, front and rear bumpers, winch, CB radio. And the parts sitting on the garage floor still waiting to be put in, which includes a Synergy front inner axle sleeves, c-knuckle gussets, and ball joints, and a Teraflex big brake kit. All that stuff adds up.

Gorgeous Jeep. I have a friend that is also putting a Hemi engine into his Wrangler. Can't wait for him to finish it up this winter and to have a few rides in it this spring

They still should have used a towel or just taken the hood off.

Oh well, my lightbar should prevent that. It would chop someones head off lol

That said i like the jeep. Wish mine had a hemi. That just shocked me that someone would do that on a brand new 90,000 dollar vehicle.

But im not their customer anyway. Never will be in the market for anything in this price range. But, i wouldnt mind a small block chevy conversion.

Wait a second, what in the hell did they have to take the frame off for? Is the motor really that tight of a fit? Lol
