2014 Billet Rubicon Build

Thought I would start the thread while it's still stock. It's been wheeled stock at Superlift ORV.

I did have a ARB 17,500 lb snatch strap and Stauns Deflators.

CB Install

Installed Uniden Pro510XL with Quadratec stainless steel mount. Tuned the 4' Firefly with a Astatic PDC7 SWR meter I got on Amazon to 1.2. Cable is run through the tailgate behind the subwoofer then along the tub under the carpet. Ran power direct to battery. Grounded to bolt behind dash and spliced both behind glovebox to wires from radio.

I may get a 3' antenna as this one is high and does hit trees on the trail.

Went with this after being able to talk to Bob at CFE products directly about all my CB questions. Quadratec got the order to me quick so I could install before my Superlift ORV wheeling on Thanksgiving.

Phase 1 parts ordered

After much consideration I went with the Teraflex 3" lift w/8 arms. Almost went with Metalcloak. I talked to everyone about everything out there; guys that run them, work on them, install them, and sell them.

Special thanks to Ken and others for quality suspension posts. There is a lot of misinformation to sort through.

On the way:
Teraflex 3" 8 arm kit
Fox 2.0 shocks
JKS front adjustable trackbar
Coast 1310 front driveshaft
Spidertrax spacers

Will have the shop weld in Artec C gussets and check my alignment before I get 35s.

Probably will go with Teraflex HD hinged carrier when I do the 35s. Also will get either a Procal or Flashpaq.

Going to run 35s on stock wheels until I can get Artec full truss and gears installed. Plan will be 37s with flat fenders eventually.

Installed. The driveway pictures don't capture the lift height. When I get 35s will get some trail pictures up.

Extremely pleased with the way it drives. The ride is less harsh than stock and more stable at speed.

Ordered Procal and Teraflex HD hinged tire carrier to get ready for 35s.

After that will have to decide on rocker protection that can be used as a step. Kids/wife already have a hard time getting in with the stock 32s.

Trail pics

Here is some pictures of what it looks like now with the 35s. This is all I was able to get from my sons pictures on the trail. 78 degrees here yesterday. Also this was the first offroad with the new suspension. Everything worked flawlessly. Some rigs creak a lot but mine was silent.

Teraflex hinge

Here is the Teraflex HD hinge and adjustable carrier. No issues with this install. Tire is higher and tight now on the tailgate. I have a 1.5" spacer on there so it will work with the stock wheel backspacing. I'm waiting on the new 3rd brake light kit to ship. I put a temporary solution on there now which works but will be a PITA to disconnect when removing the spare.

Nice rig! I'm working up my build plan now on my new billet. You said you did a lot of research on lift. What made you go with the TF 3"? I'm trying to decide between that and the AEV 3.5". Either one I plan on running the AEV tuned shocks. Just wanted to hear your reasoning. Sounds like you are happy with it.

Thanks.

Ultimately I went with Teraflex because of their support. I'm new to this and was installing myself. They always have someone available to help and they have been around a long time. There are a lot of good kits from different companies. In general I wanted adjustable control arms which AEV did not have. Since I have a 4 door I did not want to use brackets and lose clearance.

Brawler Rockers Installed

Here are some pictures of the install. The fit was perfect but this was a lengthy install. The most difficult step is drilling because the sheet metal is so thin. I purchased a Marson 325 Nutsert tool for this and would not have wanted to do this without it. All the Nutserts when in without issue. Powder Coat is Dupont Black Magic. I'll post some better photos later.

AFE Y Pipe

I put the AFE Y Pipe on last month. My 1310 driveshaft still touched the exhaust crossover at full flex. I tried the Teraflex exhaust spacers but didn't like how the crossover drops below the crossmember. No issues now with plenty of clearance. May do the rest of the exhaust later.

When the gussets were welded was there any preheat or postweld cooling done to the C's or was the trigger on the mig just squeezed and somebody welded away?

They prepped the area to weld grinding and removing the paint. Don't think they preheated. I didn't question the method as I've seen their work. They were working on a KOH truck so if it's good enough for KOH it's good enough for me.

Daystar Hood Wranglers

Since installing my lift and removing the air dam the hood flutters quite a bit. I ordered a set of the Daystar Hood Wranglers but haven't installed them yet. Over the weekend we had high winds here and my hood lifted enough that I heard it slam back down which scared the hell out of me. Installed today and took all of 5 min. Here are some photos. Make sure the straps are warm and they will go on easier. I put them in front of the radiator while I removed the stock units but it's also 75 here today. If you are careful you don't need to remove the lower latch. Use small vice grips and the plastic pins just snap.

This is shaping up nicely.

Are you running spacers to make the OEM wheels work? If not, what size tire is that?

Well Done Sir…….

Very nice build indeed. The PS rockers turned out great. Those are on my list .. just finished building my front axel.. [ Synergy Ball joints, knuckle gussets, inner axel sleeve and RCV CV front Axles with 300 M shafts]

guess I should start a build thread for this project…

again, very nice build …you keeping the stock fenders?

Thanks, I'm really pleased with them and the powder coater did a excellent job on them as well. No, not keeping the stock fenders. Will do Poison Spyder Crusher Flares so I can go to 37s. First need to spend some money on the front axle and steering components.

My last build was a 2010 Rubicon I ran mostly PS stuff…..even the Dif covers .. very very good. i color coated the spider to the body color…. turned ok pretty good. had the brawler light on the front and the new BL II on the back .. this time i went with the same Terraflex tire holder you have.

I stayed with 35 because I didn’t want to regear, get dif axels etc.. when you go over 35 .. you have to alter a great deal more on your build .. but hey that’s half the fun ..
