2014 DD JKU build

I'll start by saying this Jeep build isn't going to be extreme since it's my daily driver. It's a 2014 JKU Sport S in copperhead orange. I placed the factory order Dec 23 2013. I got the six speed manual and soft top with half doors. The S package adds 17 inch alloy wheels, window tint and leather wrapped wheel and shifter knob. Only options are 3.73 gears ($95) AC ($1200) and Sat Radio ($350).

This is a pic of it at the dealer on delivery day, March 1st 2014:

First stop after leaving the dealer was to meet my buddy at a local tire shop to swap tires. I traded him the factory wheels and tires for his BFG AT's on black Fast wheels. The tires are 285 70 17 load range E with only 5000 miles on them. Not sure if I'll stick with the wheels but I like the tires a lot.

A couple days later I took it to an accessory shop and had seat heaters installed in the front seats and remote start installed. They did a nice job on both and I'm happy with the way they both work.

I ordered an AEV front bumper and a Warn winch this week as well. I'll post some pics when I get them installed. I also have LED headlights and a LED lightbar from my previous Jeep to install.

I'm not going to lift this Jeep but I want to have it level with the bumper and winch so I have springs and shocks from my previous 10A and a pair of Rancho 3/4 inch front spacers to help with that. Probably do the front first and see how it sits before deciding on whether to do the rear spring install. Well that's all I have for now. stay tuned.

Springs and shocks

Today I had my dealer install the front springs and shocks from my 10th Anniversary Rubicon. The springs got me 1 7/8 inches of front lift. I didn't notice any difference in ride on my way home. I think it's sitting slightly nose high now and hopefully it'll be fairly level when I install the winch and bumper next week.

Truck-Lite LED Headlights

Had some time this morning so I installed my Truck-Lite LED headlights. I had these on my previous JK and kept them for this one. These are pretty common on WF and pretty simple to install so I won't bore you with the details.

Looks really good so far, its going to look really nice with the half doors in the summer.

So you had a 10A before this? Why the switch?

Thanks. I really like the half doors and the weather has been total crap so far. Should be really sweet on warm summer days.

Yeah I had a 10A and it was a sweet Jeep but I just didn't like the auto trans. Most people would have just dealt with it but I got a really good trade value and I qualify for affiliate pricing so it wasn't too much of a financial hit. I only put 3000 miles on it in 8 months also so I decided to get something less expensive. I factory ordered this one and and only got the options I really wanted and shortened my loan by 3 years. Honestly, I don't miss it at all.

BTW, when Jeep announced the Rubi X it took all the thunder away from the 10A. I wish they would have left the 10A as the Premium JK but I guess they have to make money and high dollar Wranglers seems to be the in thing these days.

That makes a lot of sense. I know some people don't like all the extra fluff that comes with the loaded Wranglers.

I think you'll enjoy this one more because its exactly how you want it. Can't wait until you post more pictures of it in the summer with the half doors.

Do you have any other mods planned out?

I already ordered an AEV front bumper and a Warn winch. They should be here next week. I also have a Rigid mini LED bar to go on the new bumper somewhere. I'm also working a deal with a buddy for a pair of standard front doors with crank windows. I'll probably have those in a couple weeks and use them in winter. I'd also like to replace all the plastic windows except the front doors with solid canvas similar to a military J8. Gotta do a bit more research on that though.

Maybe something like this:

And this:

Oh I see, thats actually going to look really nice!

So full doors up front and half doors in the back with canvas instead of windows all around.

I think maybe putting on some rocker bars. Or Finding some take offs from a Rubicon would go nice to cover up the side of the Jeep. It would give it a nice finished look without being too expensive.

I'm talking about these ^^^ It covers the seem and gives it a nice finished look in my opinion.

Unless of course you have other plans for rock guards or side steps instead.

Yes for winter time. Half doors and plastic windows for summer.

I like those. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do for rocker protection yet.

This probably something I can Google but I'll ask you since it is vehicle specific, how does the remote start work with the manual? Do you have to remember to leave it in neutral when you get out?

I had to pay 50 bucks for a part that's needed for manuals. Not sure what it's called but the system forces you to leave the trans in neutral. Basically when I park I leave it in neutral with the engine running. I have to press a button on the remote and remove the key from the ignition. The engine stays running until I get out and set the alarm. One I press the lock button the engine shuts off and the alarm arms. I can then start the engine by pressing the remote start button. Took a couple days to get used to it but I have to say it's as reliable as the factory remote start on my last Jeep.

Finally got a warm enough day for a quick wash. Still waiting on my bumper and winch. Should have a nice pair of full front doors by next weekend also.

I picked up the front hard doors from my buddy this weekend. They are from a 13 Sport with 10000 miles on them and are in perfect condition. He even made me a copy of his key. I plan to use them for the winter months. I'll probably leave them black unless I get an AEV hood and paint everything at once.

Thanks Jay. The hood choice is easy for me. It'll be AEV all the way. On a side note I was quoted $1100.00 to paint match the front doors. I think that's kind of pricey so I didn't even ask about painting a hood as well.

I haven't decided what to get for sliders. I'm focused on my front bumper and winch right now. I just gotta find time to go pick them up. I've been working a lot of overtime to pay for all this stuff.

I picked up my winch and bumper today, along with the winch mounting plate. Barely fit in the JKU. Big box made shifting gears fun. Oh well. The things we do for our Jeep addiction.
