You have the right product with the rollbar mounts, they will match up with the super QFs or the regular QFs. This is a trimmed down super QF.

I like the product but the profile is a little high for my taste. These were something that they are allowing me to evaluate. While I think these are awesome for bigger extinguishers/tanks, I asked them to consider making a single point mount that would accept the standard fire extinguisher mount that comes with the smaller extinguisher.

None of the hardware is inexpensive either....about 15-20 percent of my cost will go into these and special hinge bolts.

It will be interesting to see how the powder coat holds up....I don't think that it will chip but it may be unavoidable.

How about a spring loaded pull pin with a radiused end, similar to the one at the right of this photo...

I took a cursory look at the product....didn't get much further than the price.

I will reserve judgement on the current hardware until it truely gets its chance to be evaluated. Even so, I think that you would only trading the potential of a small scratch for a slightly larger one (at 2.5 x the cost) on an area that will only get seen if the tray is open.

BTW: the rack has passed all of the weight testing with flying colors....my wife has not been enthusiastic about the extra 40 pounds (weights plus rack) on the door since she has been taking it grocery shopping lately.

Prototype #2 should be ready soon.

So when u say you have 40 open and 30 closed does that mean 70 total?
What if you have bags with stuff mounted then you want to unfold the table and put stuff on top to use?

I hear you. Just trying to see if I could find a better solution. I think that supplier was showing those in $tainle$$, a bit overkill, I readily admit

No....that just meaans that it was tested with each weight with different parameters.

In order to truely be "weight rated", one would have to test the item to the point of something breaking. Most weight testing is done to define the parameters of reasonable usage.

As I have commented before....in our past experiences, the majority of users never exceed 15 pounds of storage on the tailgate. This experience has been with FJs that have almost double the potential capacity of the JKs tail gate just because they are able to physically fit more on a larger rack.

Keep in mind that this system is designed to provide an extra surface to mount gear (for easy access) or to use the table as a place to place tools or more likely to lay out a picnic spread. It is not designed to be a work bench or to toss your derilict transfer case onto.

Heavier items should be directed to the side racks which can support much heavier loads. Common sense will have to prevail here.

That said, we will also be adding a few holes to the backing to allow a user to screw the storage system to the tail gate as a form of additional support....I suspect that 99% will never use this option.

I love the input from the forums...so I don't mean to shoot down what are great ideas. That said, there are also a minimum set of requirements that I need to meet.
So yeah...there is a difference between making something for yourself and something to sell. Much like you, if I made it specifically for myself....it would be SOOOoooo expensive that no one could afford it (IE: J8 hood scoop ).

My goal is to make a prototype that is high quality, fits the needs/desires of the masses and is still affordable.....that way the boss can take the concept and run with it. Obviously, it also needs to be durable and as flawless in function as possible....we have a pretty good track record in that department.

Hey Doc, have you had a chance to see if those side racks work in 2 doors? I know it was asked some time back, but wondered if anyone has tried since.

to me, it looks like the 2 door has a much larger space there - it goes all the way to the front seat.

They have 17s alright....to the tune of $250 each. By going with the 16s, it almost paid for the tires.

Yes....As I recall, you ordered one and chose to wait until we had it in place.

If your initials are TG, yours should have shipped yesterday.
