Still trying to decide on whole light package. Still researching speaker, tuck lited, kc, etc for headlights, dog lights, off-road, tai lights,
I was set on 315x70x17's this am until I read a post were someone said 35's are the new 33's.
That threw me over the edge and I went with 35's and upgraded my lift to handle the meats.
I would probably lean toward the 5.13 gears. I think those will set you up to run the 37's efficiently and give you a little room for growth should you decide to go with 40's down the road.
Ok, major problem today with the 37's. I am getting this work done at 4wd and they have a good reputation around here. The jeep is at shop today to get lift and 37's on it. Tomorrow they were going to re-gear it.
I went with a re 3.5 lift with lCA and shocks. I was told this would give the right clearance and steering and drive angles. Well, today they put the rear lift on and were in process of mounting the 37 on the rear and called me and told me it wont work. They said that my sliders would hit and I told them I knew that and I would trim or have them trim like I have seen on many post here. Then they told me that still wouldn't be enough clearance and I would need a bigger lift. They are trying to get me to go back to 35's. If I go 35's I will save a substantial amount but what additional things would I need to do 37's? maybe a one inch body lift? fender trim or replace?
if my jeep is lifted 3.5 inches and I put a on
current tire is like 32.4
the 35's are actually 34.60 or 1.2 inches compared to stock
the 37's are like 36.6 so that is 3.2 inches difference compared to stock
so the diameter of the tires going from a stocker to the 37's is only adding half that per side. 1.6 inches. If im lifting 3.5 inches and I only need 1.6 inches what am I missing. I can cut 1.6 off the sliders plus the lift I should be in good shape.
are they jerking me around or what am I missing. I know my comparision above is not exact but I don't get it.
What lift kit are you using? RK lifts move the axle back an inch in the rear so it will clear the rails. I do not rub the rails on 37s. However, the problem then becomes this puts the pointy body panel in rear of the wheel well into the tread - so that will need to be bent back or hammered mine down. You will need to trim fenders/get flat fenders, and trim the air dam up front. The air dam is just plastic. I also stubbied my factory bumpers until I can get aftermarket ones.
The off-road shop should be able to answer these questions. I'm running 37s with 3.5 inches and flat fenders with no problems. There is some tweeking that will need to be done. 37's take a bit to play. Your gonna need flat fenders or cut them. Pinch seam and Ruby rails will need to be trimmed in the rear. Air damn needs to go Gonna need some adjustable control arms to push the front tires forward and rear backward. Grab a razor knife and plastic saw , put it on an RTI ramp and start trimming whatever rubs.
And you might need to ditch the factory bumpers for clearance if you plan to go off-road
I am in hospital until at least Friday if not through the weekend. Had my son go take pics. Looks good with the 35's but the 37's would look so much better.
They have agreed to switch back to the 37's if that's what "I really want", "but you will probably regret it". Wow, can you believe they said that?
Hoping you are feeling better. That was really crappy of them to do what they wanted rather than what you wanted. They are morons if they cannot get your rig to clear 37s on 3.5 of lift - trimming is all it will take with proper bumpstop. Did you give them permission to trim as needed?
With my rig, I trimmed fenders and bumpers before taking it in for the lift. Then we did what fljeepleo mentioned - stuck driver side then passenger side on a forklift and flexed it until we hit stuff. Learned I needed more bumpstop than they originally put in, and that I needed to hammer back that pointy seam in back of the rear wheel well. I cleared the Rubicon rails but will probably trim them anyhow in rear for good measure.
Hope they do right by you! And sorry you have to spend Christmas in the hospital.

What ever happened with the 37s? I have the same Jeep but 3" lift and I've been thinking 37s. I figured all I would need to do is trim the rock rail. Have you fit the 37s on yet?
They are 17x9. I am really happy this wheel and tire combo. I the the star center hub would also look great on a Willis with the star decal on the hood.
Also got the bully dog programmer and am really impressed. Changing the tire size and the axel ratio really brought the jeep to life. I had to take my can-am 4-wheeler to the shop about 12 miles away. I pulled a utility trailer without the bullydog. It constantly hunted for gears and had very poor acceleration. I put the bullydog one and changed the tire size, confirmed the axel size. And a few other settings and I have to tell you. I got all the power and then some back running the bigger heavier tired. Very satisfied with the bullydog and highly recommend it to anyone.
Coming along great! 37s do look sexy on those 4drs... I love the look of a small lift and those smittybuilt XRC bumpers with 37s but that's just me. Any chance you're adopting? Ha
