SPOD arrived, as the build turns

SPOD arrived this evening…happy with the great price from NorthRidge4x4…their shipping was lighting fast. Now for the weather to warm up a bit here in NC so I can install the SPOD and power up my ARB's, rear Rigid LEDs also get the back up camera installed. I ordered the basic SPOD, six single lit switches is more than plenty for my needs. I will only be using two of the switches for the LEDs for now, leaving me four for other options..scary...

Looking forward to a neat, clean wiring install with this accessory power source directly from the battery completely away from the Jeeps canbus electrical system. I used a similar accessory power source on a smaller scale on my BMW motorcycles with canbus electrical systems and it work flawlessly.

Thanks RubiconRin....I am looking forward to the SPOD install. I may start on it this weekend. The backup camera/review mirror arrived this evening.....much more install work to do. A little at a time.
Gotta get juice to my leds….

Hey Super T thanks bro, compliments and encouragement are always appeciated. Its been a fun build for sure and I am really happy with the AEV 3.5" lift, would do it again in a minute. There are plenty of other options out there, but this is working great for my needs.

Cheers!

great looking jeep learned so much from your thread thank you..

did u face any problem with the 3.5 and 35 on a sahara jeep, from the dana 30 or whaatever.. how much power did you lose going with the 35 bfg at, like does it take 13s from 0-60.

sorry for the long question, as i do have a 2013 sahara, and afraid to do the exact same lift and tires as yours but afraid it will be too much for a sahara to handle .

Lift height really has nothing to do with power loss, tire size does. I run 315/70/17s which is really not a true 35" tire, but met my needs completely as I did not want tires that stuck out beyond my fenders. Personal choice for everyone. I am more an overlander than an completely off road enthusiast, so this set up suits me fine.
As for power, I can honestly say that I don't feel the need to regear anytime soon. Of course you will here all sorts of "opinions" on the regear topic. I never measure the 0-60 time…honestly, I don't know if I will ever regear. I am not unhappy at all with my current setup at all. I used the ProCal and it has seemed to work out just fine. The 3.6 engine has a little more hp than the 3.8 so this may make up the difference. Again, lots of thoughts on this topic. Do what works for you.

I suggest you read as much as you can to make an informed decision. There are lots of very knowledgeable members on here. It really all depends on what your going to do with your JK. Best of luck, and thanks for the compliments.

Installed the SPOD today…took me about an hour and a half. This is probably in the top 5 of a must have mods for me. I really like how clean this unit installs. Anyone who has a reasonable mechanical ability can do this install. Next I will work on getting my ARB Intensity LEDs and rear Rigid leds wired into the SPOD. Still leaves four additional switches for more lights.
The switches stay lit when they are on, otherwise they are off. I did not see a need to buy the switches that have a second indicator light. This was a fun install. Anyone can install the SPOD, just take your time, it was not difficult.

Since my JK is pretty much equipped with everything AEV…I decided to add a little swag and order this from a vendor…hope the AEV decal police don't come a knockin…

After the SPOD install…poser pic…gotta get my ARB leds fired up…next.

Rig looks great. I highly recommend you get rid of those sahara steps and upgrade to step rails of your choice. If you hit those sahara steps on the trail, they break, and scratch the crap out of your paint.

Love the look of the rig. I just wish that the sPod came available with A pillar switch mounts. The top of the windshield is already spoken for in my JK with my CB. It's a shame they don't offer any other switch mounting options.
Great work on your rig though.

I believe you can buy just the source unit and harness, without the switch panel. Then you just buy the panel of your choice, switches, and wire em up.

Thanks UgaTyler, you have a great looking rig as well!

I looked at the Dune color and Anvil colors initially, but when I saw the Billet
it was a slam dunk! I am very happy with Billet Silver aka- "the color of money"

Cheers!

I bet if you gave the guys at SPOD a call they would work with you on an A Pillar switch set up. The SPOD is in the top 5 of one of my favorite mods so far.
Good luck!

JW Speakers leds and ARB's lighting up

After the SPOD install and connecting my ARB LEDs I decided to post a pic.

So here are the JW Speaker H/Ls and lower D/Ls -

Here comes the sun.....ARB's aka- solar eclipse lol…these lights are seriously blindingly bright - lol! Needless to say I would buy again in a heartbeat. I would highly recommend getting one spot and one flood…its more light than should be allowed by law….lol! They turn the night into day time.

Cheers!
Still waiting for AEV to put their 730N compatible back up camera on the market, the next mod.

q8jk I too have a 2013 Sahara, Billet Silver actually..haha. I just bought it a few weeks ago with intent to lift it and put on 35's. I intentionally found one with the 3.73 gear ratio to accommodate this. I did a lot of research and talked to some of the build shops on if the 3.21 would work or if I needed the Rubi 4.10. Basically if you have the 3.21 you can do 35's and should be fine but are going to notice some power loss and probably isn't the best off road set up. If you have 3.73 ratio you are set up perfect for 35's and will only notice power from full stop really. Anything higher is just to add more off road low end torque for crawling. I also drove a 3.73 with stock tires, then hopped in a lifted 3.73 with 35's and barely noticed starting power. At speeds it almost feels like more power because the tire size (it's not real power just faster accel.).

Billet... any reason you chose the 3.5" AEV lift over the 2.5"? I'm going back and forth between the two, but leaning towards the 3.5" now. Just curious what your reason was.

Yes, with the AEV 3.5" lift you can always drop it back down to 2.5" if you wanted, but not sure why you would. You cannot bump the 2.5" up to a 3.5".
The 3.5" also leaves options for 37" tires, the 2.5" does not. I am very happy with the ride, handling and stance of this lift and tire combo..would choose it again Ina minute.. FWIW hope this helps!

Billet please elaborate on how you can drop it back down to a 2.5"? I have never heard this and am curious what it entails. I don't think I would ever do it, would stick to my decision, but it would be nice to have the option...especially for resale.

Wouldn't you need to replace just about everything? Shocks, springs, change high steer back to stock, shorten bump stops....

How is the height for climbing in? I'm 6' 2" so not worried about myself, but not sure I can handle the wife bitching every time she gets in....or worse yet, having to help her in, haha!

Wish I could explain more about the lift and drop down to a 2.5" from a 3.5". My thoughts are you may want to call and talk to the AEV rep/techs. They are great about answering any questions you may have. I have always had a call and question answered first time around. They are the experts not me, I am just enjoying their product. Great customer service to boot.

I am fairly mechanically inclined and I probably could have installed this lift myself, but just decided for the $$$ I did not want to have any first install "learning" issues. It was worth every penny to have them do the install. I wanted to make dam sure that a completely custom suspension I am riding down the highway on is perfect.

You really have to decide what is right for you and your wife and your most importantly your budget. I am very happy with the advice and work by the guys at Rubi Trux. They have done many AEV builds and I am happy with their work.
It really depends on what YOU want and what your plans are with your JK.
Hope this helps. PM me if you have any other questions.
Good luck!

Shin Etsu grease arrived this evening

Will be giving my freedom top seals a generous coating of the ShinEtsu Silicone lube to keep the seals in great shape. No issue with leaks and I want to keep it that way. Thanks again to the members on here that suggested this. Bought two got it quick with Amazon.com.

Hi There,
Awesome build. I'm following your lead almost to the T. as they say, "Imitation is truly the highest form of flattery".

2 quick questions:
1. What brand of mudflaps do you have ?
2. What was the part # for your ARB lights?

Thanks in advance
Joe

Joe, your welcome bro!

1. OEM front, AEV 10 minute install.
2. ARB's are called "Intensities" call the boys at ok4wd in Asbury, NJ ask for Rin he is a good man and can get whatever you want. He knows my build.

(Really consider the SPOD for the ARBs, you will be very happy, and it's an easy install, just take your time)

Thanks for the compliment, glad to help, enjoy the build!

You bet, hey think about starting up a build thread here on the forum so we can all see pics of your rig! If you order the ARB Intensity LEDs you may want to order one spot and one flood. Just a suggestion. I did and I am really happy with that combo, the best of both worlds. You will also need to order the wiring harness for the ARBs. Hope this helps.
