Branman's 2014 Anvil Rubicon build thread

Ok so here goes nothing haha. Im naming this a build thread but that is probably a little overkill. You wont see any crazy builds going on in here. I have plans to upgrade a few things here and there and just enjoy my new JK. This is also my first build thread on any vehicle I have owned so I apologize if it sucks (and you can post that if you like ).

I purchased this Anvil beauty on October 26th from Koons in Vienna Virginia. I dealt with Tom Ames and couldnt have had a better experience. We basically did the deal through email and was smooth as ever. I asked Tom to have a set of 285/70/17 Goodyear Duratracs put on before pick up. I guess you can call that the first mod . Ok I have rambled on enough lets get to a few pics. These are all taken with my iPhone so the quality is not top notch.

Here she is parked next to my 2011 GTI that I traded. I can only imagine how much tire shine they needed haha.

JW 8700 evolution headlight install

I dont have any night shots but I can tell you these things are incredible. I had factory xenons in my gti and the JWs just blow them away. I have bad vision at night (sucks cus im only 30 haha) so lighting was high on the list of upgrades. The install only took about 20 mins. I also put in headlight revolution's anti flicker adapters which plug right in. Ill throw up a couple links for the parts

Thanks! Never really thought about it. They are just sitting in the boxes the JWs came in.

Thanks guys.

As far as the 285s they fit great. If your making a full lock turn you will rub the swaybar a little bit. I just installed spacers today to remedy that.

I have been busy today.

Installed JW speaker 6145 fog lights. These lights are specific for the JK and have the proper bumper bracket. I had to cut off the factory plug and use the supplied plug from JW. I think this is required on every JK after 2010. I snapped a few pics during the install.

This is the factory plug.....which has to go.

Here is the new connector supplied by JW. I chose to solder the connections and use heat shrink. There is a few different ways this can be done.

All done, just like factory!

Installing the actual lights were kinda a pain. I had to lower the front sway bar to remove the lights. I couldnt find a spot large enough to squeeze them in. The quality of the lights are top notch though. The adjuster screws are even in the stock location so you can still adjust them with the lower shield on. I thought that was very cool of JW putting in the extra effort to make them as close to stock as possible, only way brighter.

Sorry for the mess of tools laying around.

Installed 1.5" Spydertrax spacers

I am aware of the possible dangers with running wheel spacers and have done plenty of research on the matter.

I pulled the wheels and removed the clips that hold the rotor on during assembly. These must be removed and have no negative effect once removed.

I then added the supplied red loctite

I installed the spacer and torqued to 90 ftlbs. These are normally all blue but considering the color, I didnt want to see the bright blue through the wheels (i know im picky). I painted them using rustoleum high heat grill paint.

All done!

Branman, Glad to see it didn't take long after your departure from the waiting room to get busy. Everything looks great. Love the Anvil, it was our second choice.

Thank you!

Yeah I had a long wait and spent alot of time looking at parts. I also was hitting the submit order button a couple times while searching haha. This was my second choice in color as well. I dont regret this at all though. I love this color now. Its so unique and just really is an eye catcher. I get nothing but compliments on it.

I actually got them at rebel off-road for 760 shipped. I guess they were running a sale because the price is back to 780. They are offering free shipping though.

I'll be looking for your build thread haha.

First off, Awesome Jeep!

Second Off, +1 for tom ames and Koons! Amaizing guy and dealership todo business with. Without them i would still be fighting local dealers

3rd: I know this is a stretch and would be a HUGE favor for a fellow jeeper but do you think when you get a chance when it gets dark out take a picture from the cabin looking out the front windshield with just the JW fogs on? Im going to order them this week but want to see how much they light up the road w/o headlights. It would be much appreciated, if your already out in her at night

Thanks!

Thank you sir!

Agreed

Id be happy to get some pics. I think you will be impressed. I kinda have them adjusted to where the stock fogs were so I may play around with the adjustment a little. They seem to fill in the ground nicely at the current height.

You're stuck with me, after all the blood, sweat and tears we shared in the waiting room.

Now I'm trying to think up a catchy title for my own build thread! Although so far my mods are piddly, compared to yours.
