Ccarrico29's Hydro Polar Build

Sold my 2011 Synergy Green Camaro and picked up a 2014 JKU Polar Edition last month after seeing a Hydro Blue one sitting on the lot. Thought I would start a build thread to document the changes I'll be doing. Feel free to give criticism (both good and bad) as I'm new to the Jeep world and will have lots of dumb questions.

The night I brought her home. 3.73s, auto.

First round of mods (started small). Mirror drill mod, 15% tint and Antenna X 13" antenna. Then came the Teraflex 2.5" Budget Boost lift kit, SuperChips Flashpaq, 18" XD Monsters, and 295/70/18 Terra Grapplers. Also added the Teraflex hinge and tire carrier, and the AEV CHMSL to stay legal.

Got some new goodies coming. Maglite & maglite mounts, and slush mat rear cargo cover! Also installed a strip of XPEL clear bra on the front of the rear fenders. I know, I know it's a Jeep but I've found out around here they love to throw rock down rather than fix the potholes and it flings up and eats my paint alive. Now I can get it dirty without feeling guilty.

Doing my best to resist a set of Trucklite or JW8700s... It never ends!

For what it's worth, I'd recommend going to Home Depot and buying some replacement hardware for the MagLite mounts BEFORE you even try to install it. Even with predrilling the pilot holes the included screws snapped and broke. Bought some good stainless and installed in minutes.

Also, in an attempt to help save you from yourself...

Have you checked out the IPF headlights? Mike has them on his jeep and they are SO much better than stock. And at $180 for the set and no extra harnesses, they are MUCH easier on the wallet. PM me if you'd like a picture of our jeeps side by side (mine are still stock), so you can see the difference in light output.

Jeep is moving along fast!

Got the cargo mat installed today. Also decided to paint my muffler black (why doesn't it come like that from factory!?!) and give her a bath. Going to play with plastidip tomorrow.

I'm not a huge fan of that color (Personal preference) but you have that Jeep looking mighty fine. Keep it up!

It's 15% llumar. When I went to get it tinted they asked if I wanted legal or to match the back. I just told them to match, which I wanted 15% anyways so it worked out great.

How much of the muffler did you paint? Did you take it off to paint?

I painted the entire underside, both ends, and the tip. I didn't take it off, just masked around it. I wasn't too worried about the top portion since it's primarily for looks anyways. BTW I love those taillights UgaTyler.

Maglite mounts installed. Starbrite, I thankfully didn't have any issues with the stock screws, but I was careful. The seat brackets are hard as heck though I do know that. Broke the first drill bit and had to get a second.

It has to look better than the big silver box that's underneath mine.

Wow! Glad you didn't have an issue with the screws. Too bad about the drill bit!

I got a free crack in it the other day. Going to pick it up in about an hour with my new replacement.

That ! When we were moving to Texas we stopped in New Orleans. When the valet brought Mike's jeep back the next morning, the windshield was cracked! It was fine when we left it. No clue where it came from.

Luckily Florida had a free windshield replacement law.

I spoke with the body shop manager (who personally handled all of my claim including speaking with Chrysler) and he said that he agreed there was no rock chip or damage to the windshield. He said what he found interesting was that during removal of the original, the "glue" was gobbled up and actually overlapped and extra thick in the exact same position as where the crack originated. He thinks it was a manufacturing defect where the machine double passed the area during installation and it caused a stress point that eventually cracked. Whatever the reason, it's fixed now and I'm happy because I have money for more Jeep parts.

I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need a brand new (non premium) soft top I found locally for $550 since I bought the Harken hoister. Haven't had a chance to install it and it's killing me seeing everyone else driving around topless.

Got a set of Hothead Liners on the way. Can't wait to get them!

Hopefully will get my Harken hoist installed tomorrow night that will fend off my craving for a soft top.

Got it installed. What a total pain in the . Of course, my wife had to comment on how "visually unappealing" it is. LOL I agree, it wasn't my first choice, but after waiting a month on a Misch I gave up. Haven't tested it out yet since it's been raining all week but hopefully it works great.

Hmm next mod...

She looks BEAUTIFUL! I'm jealous of the Polar hoods. They are reeeeaaalllyyy nice!

Next mod: buy some seat belt pads so you don't go mad from the flapping sound they make when doorless!!!

Best part -under $10!!!
