Im currently trying to build a deck Cover for my 2015 unlimited. I'm trying to avoid using the hard top mounting points (id prefer one similar to the tuff security ones) but I'm having a hard time getting my dimensions right. Does anyone have a home made one or anyone that can give me some advice as to what to use or where to mount? I'm trying to avoid interfering with the soft top folding down and messing with my soft top boot.
Hi I don't have one but was looking into building one of my own also, I've done other boxes before and for me the easiest way to construct it the exact way you want it it to mock it up with cardboard. The angles aren't just square obviously so get an over sized box our tape together some small ones layed out flat out then in starting with the bottom, sides then top, cut out and tape on pieces you need or don't need then when your happy with it lay that onto whatever your making the box from (plywood, sheet metal etc...) just remember you have to put the pieces together so leave room for tie ins (screws bolts welds). As far as bolting it in securely I was thinking about using the loops that pop up for straps or bungee cords, drill holes in the box where they lay (you can mark that on the cardboard also) and just use some master locks our big enough bolts to secure the box in through the loops.
It's allot cheaper to waste the cardboard then the material, hope it helps good luck post back with results and pics when done
Most of the ones I've found on Google use the hard top mounting points. I'm wanting one more like the tuffy security one that sits below the deck so it doesn't interfere with the soft top.
Do a search for Shark "Tank" build thread. This guy builds a much shorter shelf. It is what I am planning on doing this spring.
