ERAUGrad04's Unlimited Rubicon AEV Build

Pallet one of two showed up at the house yesterday and I thought I would get the build thread spooled up! The Jeep should be delivered next week and I hope to get started on the build next weekend.

For starters, this board is awesome! Many questions were asked on this forum and so many folks contributed great answers that helped guide this build! You guys and gals ROCK!

For all the parts, I worked with Maxx @ Northridge4x4 and I don't have anything but excellent things to say about those guys. Maxx and I went back and forth for about a month tweaking the order and he was excellent to work with!

Okay, okay...enough of the sappy stuff...Onto the build!

The Jeep has landed!!!!

The only snag is I am out of town through Friday morning! DOH!

If all goes as planned, the Dynatrac ball joints, AEV lift and Synergy components are the first up on the build sheet this weekend.

Thanks!! But aren't all of them sweet Jeeps?

Actually, every time we pass a Jeep, my two and three year old boys gets all excited and shout: "NICE JEEP MAN!" And the best part is, they never mistake a Hummer/FJ/etc. for a Jeep!

AEV Santa (thanks for that Billet!) stopped by a dropped off pallet #2 today and Wifey was kind enough to go through everything to make sure it all made it safe. Can't wait for build weekend to get here!

Hey ERAUGrade04 we were close to the same order time in the 2014 order waiting room. Gotta say I'm pretty jealous of your parts list. I was only able to get AEV pintlers in black with Duratracs and the AEV hood. If you end up not using any of those nice shiny new parts throw em my way ;-)
Good luck on the build and I hope to see some progress soon!!!!!

This weekend is ball joints, lift and the Synergy trackbar/brace.

Hoping to get the rear bumper done on Monday before I take it for tires and drop it off at the body shop for the hood paintwork.

Should be a fun weekend!!

Anyone in the Bay area up for a beer and turning wrenches, let me know!

I just got my Rubi last week and the hood has been in paint all this week. Hoping to get them all installed next week.
I had Argent Pintlers on my 2011 JKU sport but this time I'm going black. Can't wait to see them all on soon hopefully.

Tackled the rear this morning. Took about 3 hours or so and was very straight forward. As it sits, the control arm hardware and trackbar bolts are still loose, which will all get tightened once the front is complete.

About my only complaint so far is the general paint quality on the axles housings. I found quite a few places where the paint was either smudged, like it was handled while still wet, or just plain missing. A can of Rustoleum Semi-Gloss fixed that right up through.

Hoping tomorrow to wrap up the front along with the Synergy track bar/components and the Northridge bolt kit. If time allows, hoping to dig into the rear bumper and tire carrier.

I thought I took more pictures but apparently I was slacking! I'll get a few more tomorrow.

New rear spring installed:

Trackbar bracket found its new home:

After lunch the Dynatrac Prosteer ball joints had their opportunity to meet the Jeep. I picked up an OTC ball joint press along with a Jeep/Dodge adapter set which made the install super smooth. Start to finish was about 3 hours as well.

BTW, these things look like art! I felt bad covering them in anit-seeze!

Knuckle all prepped ready for the Dynatracs (notice the paint "smearing/smudging on the swaybar by the link):

Lower installed:

Knuckle all reassembled:

Your AEV build is looking great! Your going to love it! Just the continuity of everything fitting exactly the way it was engineered designed to fit...beautiful. Just think when your finished you will have anAEV JK250 or JK350 once the winch is installed.

I agree with the paint quality, I did the touch up as well, really in just a few spots. Minor speed bump easily remedied with a high quality rattle can. build on bro!

Phew, that was a long weekend!

So Saturday went smoothly with the rear install followed by the ball joint install. Probably about a total of 6.5 hours spent on the two projects.

The front end lift along with the Synergy/Fox components too a bit longer than expected and I was able to wrap everything up yesterday around lunch.

A few quick notes on the install...

- Everything AEV fit perfectly. I was truly impressed by the fit and finish of all AEV components. About the only complaint I have, and a small one at that, is the instructions could have been a bit more detailed. As an example, don't install the rear bump stop until after the vehicle is on the ground and the upper control arms get torqued down! Also, the instructions say nothing more than to "re-route the axle vent tubes." For the front, that simply was not an option. I ended up keeping the same routing, but with a completely new vent hose that I picked up from the local auto parts store.

- The Synergy parts took a bit more grunting to get in place. We ended up giving up on the sector shaft brace as it would NOT line up. We spent nearly 2 hours on that brace and it was not going to line up. After talking with Synergy, it sounds like there have been a few issues with that brace and the variance in the factory track bar bracket.

- Everything was torqued down per the instructions and I plan on revisiting all bolts with the torque wrench at 500mi. Once everything has been checked, I plan on touching up all the bolts with paint and mark their position with a paint pen.

- Torquing the control arms and trackbar bolts is a chore with the vehicle on the ground! I had to get quite creative to get to all of the bolts.

Now for the ride quality....All I can say is WOW! This thing drives GREAT! The ball joints felt a bit tight right off the bat, but after about 100mi, everything is perfect. I can 100% say that I have taken a big drink of the AEV kool-aid!

Again, I slacked off on pictures, but here are a few that I managed to snap:

Front all back together still sitting on the stock wheels/tires:

At America's Tire Company getting the new wheels and tires:

As it sat last night:

Hoping to tackle the rear bumper and tire carrier tomorrow.

Thanks for looking!

Rear bumper, tire carrier and fuel caddy installed. Big thanks to my wife who gave up her afternoon to help! Took us just short of 4 hours to complete.

Once again, hats off to AEV! Not one pry bar was necessary to get things lined up.

One thing I did that made the install of the brass bushings easy was stick them in the freezer for the day prior to the install. They slipped right in their bores with nothing more than a push with both thumbs.

Once again, hats off to AEV! Not one pry bar was necessary to get things lined up.

One thing I did that made the install of the brass bushings easy was stick them in the freezer for the day prior to the install. They slipped right in their bores with nothing more than a push with both thumbs.

Looks AWESOME! Your going to have a fine looking AEV JK 250 or 350 Jeep stem to stern when your done. I agree AEV R&D makes the fit and finish an overall excellent quality. Great idea on freezing the brass bushings..haha! Only a true engineer would think if that! Your gonna love it!
Very nice sir!
