From Sport to Rubi

Figured I'd make one of these threads to keep track of things I've done/will be doing to my jeep, hope yinz enjoy.

Bought my 2010 Jk sport S back in May 2010. 3.21's/17's/power options

June 2010 Took it on it's first wheeling trip at Beaver Run Raceway

I bought some 33's a short time after and rode around like that for a bit

Then I bought a Rough country Budget Boost (2.5") and Olympic back bumper

after that came my olympic front bumper

part 2

Hated my kumho's I had and everyone I wheeled with was getting bigger so it was time to jump up to 35's (315/75/16 Maxxis Bighorns)

Bought some JKS quick disco's and went and tested out the 35's for it's first trip up Doe Valley.

high centered

Rubbed a lot with the stock fenders that some of the clips started busting off.
Went to Wellsivlle Ohio for a ride and ended taking off my rear fender flare

So next came the Bushwacker Flats

I liked knocking the passenger side flares off a bit

But they were always easy to put back on.
Next came the OR-Fab Stinger and XRC-8 winch

Went back to Doe Valley Busted my axle shaft on the last trail of the day

i wasn't the only having trouble that day, My buddy and his pathfinder

part3

I drove around for a while with my shaft out and a rag stuffed into my axle tube.
But eventually bought some Alloy USA Axle Shafts and Axle seals

Went up to the Bantam Jeep festival and had my cousin help put them in

then went out and enjoyed the weekend

Adulthood started catching up with me so me and my girlfriend went and bought a house so the Jeep didn't get any upgrades for a while besides a different top and some ball joints

Then i just wheeled it like that for the next couple years.

I thought I was going to keep my JK forever till My buddy said he was thinking about selling his Rubi for a Buggy. Well after some talking I decided to try and sell mine so I could buy his.
Everything worked out and I ended up with his Rubi about 8 month ago

08 Rubi
5.13 gears/Alloy USA heavy duty ball joints/front and rear axles are trussed with Artec truss kits (front has gussets)/heavy duty track bar mount /37" Toyo MT's mounted on Black Rock 17 x 9" steel wheels/JCR off road front and rear steel bumpers/Superwinch EPI 9.0 /Poison Spyder bolt in cage/Rock Hard harness bar/Ace Engineering steel tube fender flares/Extended stainless steel braided brake lines/Bilstein 5100 shocks and 2.5" Rock Krawler springs/JKS adjustable track bars front and back/Metal Cloak fully adjustable control arms/Poly Performance heavy duty chromoly tie rod/Rock hard skid plates

Replaced both front bearings, Tie rod end on the drag link, went and got it aligned and have been enjoying it ever since.

Flipped the sway bar wheeling it already and got some free links off a local guy

I also tried doing a Draglink flip but ended up drilling the hole out to big and ovaled it out so I bought a new knuckle and decided to wait and try that again.

Nothing planned for it any time soon, Just recently got married and going on my honeymoon in January so the jeep is on hold for a while. Just enjoying it as it is for the moment.

Nice tale of the JK Sport. How did it do on the trail with the 3.21 gears and bigger tires ? Torque limited? Hard to rock crawl?

It was fine on trails but when I would get into harder areas or do rocks I had to feather the clutch a bunch and would stall when I would try to "crawl" up harder obstacles. Torque definitely felt limited, It could barely pull me up a small hill on it's own in 4low and 1st gear.

Thanks RemoJK. I have a similar one now (3.21 ratio with 35" tires) but haven't taken off road yet . Read somewhere to regear but also read that the D30 on the front may not hold up. May need to do what you did and find a Rubi ! Thanks again for reply

THe sport was fine and I really liked it. The only thing that I had to complain about was the gearing. I planned on regearing and putting a rear locker in but seen this opportunity and went with it. AS long as you aren't going balls to wall constantly your d30 should hold up for a while. Only problem I had with mine was ujoints. I went through 2 sets before switching to alloy usa's shafts and ujoints

Got a valve stem replaced yesterday. Ripped on off this past Sunday trying to climb up a slick rock. If you listen in the video you can hear my buddy telling me to cut it passenger, but for some I reason I got confused and turned driver right into a rock lol

here's a short vid of our ride Sunday. A girl that came along with us made it and I thought it was pretty cool.

Synergy makes a adapter for oversized holes. I actually have a spare. Too late I guess
Disconnect those links regardless if you have a rubi or not

Sent you a PM, I just realized you changed jeeps.

Nice build !!!

THanks!

I bought both adapters they had, the 7/8th and the other size (can't remember). But once I drilled it out for the first time and the adapter didn't fit I didn't feel comfortable drilling out a bigger hole into the knuckle

The problem some have. They drill using 7/8 and oversize the hole. So synergy made available the new adapter. Now the instructions call for 13/16. In my case I still used the 7/8 and was able to use the original adapter. I guess it's whatever works for the person.

Yea sometime next spring I think I'm going to try it again. I already have Synergy's track bar bracket and a new drag link with everything to do the DL flip. I just may save up for some reid knuckles... that'd be nice

No I'm putting stock flares back on. The ace flares are too narrow. I've been told twice by local police to change them.

Thursday I replaced a bushing in my track bar, tightened up my Pittman arm (the bolt holding my DL onto it was loose). Also had to tighten up the track bar too. Then went to Wellsville Ohio Sunday to do some wheeling and see how everything works out. Front driver spring is rubbing my frame a little so I go to get that fixed but other than that my jk ran fine.

That's pretty impressive! Do you have a manual or auto?
