And this build will be about purpose and comfort, but will also be a place that hopefully others will help me make decisions on my new Rubicon. It will also serve as a place for me to explain what and why I am doing things differently this time.
Drove with top on for first time since taking out carpet. Decided to clean and re-install carpet. I will see if I can deal with the dog fur, but once the top goes up for the winter I would probably have installed it again. Besides the noise, it reduces the vibrations especially from the premium sound.
From my understanding standing from a forum member and forum vendor that a realignment is needed too.
I really wanted the Metal Cloak Game Changer with Fox shocks but am being pushed towards the Rock Krawler X Factor. RK doesn't recommend the Fox shocks and I'm pretty sold on them due to there build and finish quality

All joints will need to be serviced. I'm not so sure on the realignment, but I guess it's possible. I rode in an RK suspension and I knew after a short ride that I chose the better riding suspension for me.
Thinking about buying a used HT for around $700 tomorrow. The rear window defroster might not work. I'm not sure I care since it is parked in a garage overnight and it rarely gets cold enough here for ice to actually accumulate on the rear window. I will also delete the wiper blade. Then I will take it and have it CamoLine'd to match my grill and to make it scratch proof. $12-1400 is the going rate in Dallas so for $7-800 plus $400 for CamoLiner makes it a pretty good deal. Decisions, Decisions. Anyone know if a 2010 will fit a '15??
Nooo, what a bummer that you have to sell! I've been following your build silently and have loved all that you did. Hopefully you can get another one soon to document all you do once again.
It will be around until someone gives me a fair price. I will probably start deconstructing it and selling all the parts and take back to stock. I have time to float it in the meantime.
After having spent over a month selling my last car (non-Jeep) which my new Jeep replaced, Im not a bit surprised.
Enthusiast forum people seem to want some type of un-heard of deal thinking a fellow member is in a position to take a loss, the CL people, well that needs no explanation, the parking lot Saturdays, vinyl "for sale" signs...nothing. Never experienced anything like it and I usually sell w/in a week or so.
I also see several of the same Jeeps on 3 So-Cal Craigslists that I saw online even before we bought our 2015 JK on Aug 1....so 2 and 3 months on the market. Same Jeeps, still online for sale.
Why? I attribute it to post-recession credit issues/fear/changes.
In my area, many people dont have the patience, time, will or often a strong enough relationship with their bank or C/U to get a loan to buy from a private party. Especially big numbers like a nicely equipped JKU such as yours.
AND the manufacturers often make financing concessions for their dealers by making getting customers financied "easier" at the point of purchase. Additionally they often take more marginal credit risks as part of capturing as much of the dealerships lending as possible.
I have decided to keep my Jeep. We had a major issue at work and were forced to leave unexpectedly. The move has cost us over $20K plus more rent costs over the next 5 years.
With that said I think the business will make more money in long run. So I have decided to keep the Jeep. The amount I would have lost would have been too much and the market showed zero interest in it. I don't have any plans for it going forward other than enjoy it on some trips.
Buying a '15 hard top tomorrow. I'm getting a great deal. I think I would put MOPAR headliners in it again. Now that it's getting cooler and the soft top could use a major cleaning since it was down for 4 months. Less noise will be appreciated for few months. I will clean and then store my soft top and just use next spring.
The hardtop looks so much better than an OEM soft top. From now on I will only run the HT until spring and summer. I'm going to sell my premium soft top since I have always hated the way it looks and hated the color contrast. The HT looks better, sounds better and is more secure. Time for some headliners.
Great thread Dallas! Enjoyed the read! I am a newbie with a stock '15 Tank Rubicon JKU. Going to start in the next month with mods....Just wanting to finalize my plan. This has been the most influential thread that I've read. I really appreciate. it. Can you tell me if there is a place to read all your current mods without sifting through all 15 "bipolar" pages? If you don't mind, and have the time...will you simply list current mods in one post?
My Jeep looks great and handles everything well off road. On road ride is pretty good, but I really moved away from my initial build ideas. Definitely wasn't intended at first. I liked how it drove before with a simple leveling kit. Now it's definitely a much stiffer ride around town but is a great highway riding Jeep. I'm here now so there is no going back. The best things about my Jeep in order are looks great minus the small Jeep "lean", handles everything off road and drives well on highway. The worst things are it can be a rough ride on rough roads not crazy rough but probably rougher than I was going for. The weird thing is it rides rougher now that I added a hardtop. When driving with top down it rides better. With all that said I probably would go to 37's again mainly for the look.
Current mods:
2.5 MetalCloak GC with OME shocks
37" KO2's
Synergy Ball Joints
Artec C-Gussets
LoD front bumper
ARB rear bumper
Safari Straps
Great thread, you got me thinking of doing these 37" KO2's instead of 35" DTs.
I'll be installing the RK 3.5" X kit in February and I currently have 32" DTs that are still pretty new so won't be replacing them until they're gone but man do your 37s look GOOD!

I think I found a source of a suspension clunk today. Why can't this part be ground off and flush at the factory? My sway bar hits it sometimes. Why would Jeep not have this fixed or not sit out so far??

Went to a friends house to toque down everything on my suspension and grease my ball joints. A friend of his came over and we were talking. He said he had some older version Hothead headliners that he never installed. I think I'm going to buy them for $150-175. The new version are twice as thick and I've had both. Couldn't tell a difference in sound. I've spent so much money on my new business that it will be nice to finally get a deal on anything especially my Jeep.
Trimmed down the piece on the frame. Allows plenty of space for movement and the clinks should be totally gone. Now if I could only find the wind noise coming through the freedom panel I think.
I found a set of never installed original version Hothead Headliners. It didn't include the side windows. I got them for $125 and could add the sides for under $100. Still cheaper than MOPAR or new HH's.
Not at all. I didn't figure they would. For $125 better stereo sound and less road noise is worth it to me. I don't drive on hwy enough to care about the wind noise.
Love the build Dallas. I have a 14 Hydro blue Altitude and love everything about it except the 3:21 gears. The sticker reflected the 3:21 but when I spoke to the sales person I was informed that since it was an Altitude it would have been upgraded to 3:73. Not so. Previous ride was an 03 tacoma with 4:10 and it rode well with 35s and king shocks. It was a prerunner build that I sold in 2010. Would love to see your JKUR. Any chance we could meet up? Trying to decide between the PSC brawler lite and LoD armor lite.

Just read through your entire build thread! Wow man, lots of changes but it turned out great looking! Very jealous! I've been considering the 1.5 leveling with 35s and flat fenders cause I love how the 35s look over 33s and the low center of gravity look. Any reason why you chose the spring kit over the spacer kit? How did the 4.10s do with the 35s? My jku has 3.21s so I'd need to regear but for the highway driving I do I feel 4.56 would be a little higher than I want in the rpm department. Especially since the tires settle closer to 33-34 inches once mounted. Any tips for doing a similar build now that you've basically experienced both sides? I too am worried about a rough ride because coming from my lifted TJ the JKU rides very smooth and I don't want to ruin that too much!
I chose the springs over shocks because I thought they would pair well with Rubicon shocks plus the springs reduce some body roll. I really liked the leveling kit, 35's and flat fenders. It looked good and rode well. My 37's and 2.5" brings a smile to my face every time I look at it. I feel the 4.10's are even a good match for the 37's but I'm not sure how good the 3.21's would be with the 35's. It would depend on if you went with a light tire.
