GeauxWillett's long awaited 2007 JKU Build

So after months of deliberation and years of waiting, I'm finally pulling the trigger on much needed mods on my Jeep. To start, the picture below is what I'm starting with - 2007 JKUS, Rescue Green. Bought it in the beginning of 2011 with 40K miles for 19.5K. Came with a few goodies too - dual tops, Nav (RER), light bar up front, and a SPOD with two available switches (that I have done nothing with). Other than slush mats and routine maintenance, I have done nothing with my Jeep.

On Monday, this will change. Here's what's on tap:

Rubicon Express 3.5" Standard Suspension System
Rancho Control Arm Brackets
Fox 2.0 Shocks
16" MB TKO wheels
315/75/16 GY Duratracs
Teraflex Hinged Carrier
Teraflex Discos
Superchips Flashpaq
AFE Mach Force XP exhaust

Misc Items:
Sylvania Ultra headlight replacement bulbs
Smittybilt grab handles ("Oh $hiŦ" handles)
13" antenna
AFE air filter (fits in stock housing)
Spider Web Shade

Near Future:
Black Magic/Centric brake set (if my current brakes suck in the new setup)
ACE Rock Rails

Distant Future:
Teraflex Control Arms
Front & rear bumpers
winch

I'll only have the lift put on professionally - it's too cold and I'd rather someone with experience take care of that. All other work will be done by me.

Lift, shocks, tires installed today. This past weekend, put on the antenna and grab handles. Did the polyfill in the speaker bar as an added bonus. I don't really notice a difference but it was something to do on a cold day in Dallas. My 7 year old says it sounds better, but I'm not sure he truly has an audiophile's ear! The before and after pics amaze me - especially when I see it in my garage!

Thank you! I'm quite proud. Doing the rest this weekend. Ready to get it washed to get the road grime off, take a picture, then put some real mud on!

Afe Mach Force XP exhaust installed yesterday. Kind of a pain to get the old exhaust off, but nothing a sawzall couldn't handle. Love the sound and really love that it doesn't look like I have a keg for a muffler anymore. Pics coming soon.

A couple more things done this weekend. Got the Teraflex Hinged Carrier installed (pic coming). Also put on the Black Magic Brakes & rotors. Very nice brakes indeed - a huge improvement over stock and comes with a great cap to wear while you're putting the brakes on. Lastly, did the grille black out with the bedliner in a can. Just a few little things left and my current round of mods is complete. Plan on doing the gutter guard thing tomorrow as well as putting on the sway bar disconnects.

One side note - I love the Superchips! That has made a huge difference in my Jeep since everything has changed. far more responsive than I thought it would ever be.

You have been busy. Looks great! I already did the afe y pipe but I'm interested in doing the rest of the afe exhaust. How much louder is your exhaust now? Where in DFW?

Thank you! It's definitely been a busy two weeks. Still have a couple more goodies to put on, but the GF needs some time!

It's noticeably louder. I'm not a big fan of the highway drone, but I like how it sounds on the streets. Haven't been off road yet since all the changes.

I live up north in The Colony. You?

I'm way South in Mansfield/Grand Prairie. Have you been to Bridgeport? Not too far to test out the changes.

Planning on heading out there on 3/2 to break the "new" Jeep in. Doing a 1,000 lb crawfish boil on 3/1, so I'll have to wait one more day. :-)

I never checked out the or-fab. I like the TF hinge a lot. Sound engineering and construction from my layman's perspective. Good video on installation and short install time. And if my stock mount gives out, I can always add their adjustable mount. It's got pre-drilled mounting points for add ons too - racks, jack, etc. Not everything TF does is perfect but for someone who doesn't want a bumper mounted tire, they hit this one out of the park.

Thank you! It's been a fun build, that's for sure. Got the Spider Web Shade put on this weekend as well as the Teraflex QD's. Been lazy with taking pictures. Plus, it's going to be cold again this week, so who knows when I'll take the top off again.

Another beautiful day here in Dallas. Spiderwebshade is getting used for sure. Just wish I had someone to help me get the rest of the top off

Thanks man! Looking forward to seeing your build. You're getting a lot of kudos for actually thinking it through before posting. I guess that's a result of being on this forum longer than a week, like some folks.

Yeah, this will be my forth Jeep. That's helps. I know from my TJ, These things have their quirks. You can't just slap on a lift and tires and call it good. There's always something.

They suck, IMO. For $50 at Autozone (who wouldn't take them back) I expected more than just a basic replacement. They are definitely better than the 6 year old bulbs I had, but should have gone with the Philips instead.

That's what I keep hearing. Just wanted or get another opinion. Sorry to hear that man.
