Been wondering, you get a chance to put your axles to the test yet?

That's an interesting question. I haven't followed this thread closely. Wester did you re-enforce yours for those 40s?

For the hijacking that occurred on this thread, you should be ashamed of yourself. He's sharing a build thread of a project he's very happy with. He didn't ask for your opinions as to what he should've done. He could tell you exactly what I tell the guy at my work. Not your pocketbook, not your business. If you don't like it, no one is making you post here.
You shouldn't have gone with Gecko, and you should've gotten different wheels. I don't like the tires either, so you should've gone with something else.

Went with Offroad Evolution's C2 Gusset supports, pics posted earlier in thread. They are pretty beefy, so far no issues. Roughest I've had it was on some trails by the Cape Fear River, Harnett County. The local stuff that I've had it on is mainly fields, muddy hills, and creeks so I haven't really pushed it to the limits at all. Definitely still trying to get up to Uwharrie soon!

Did you just gusset or did you sleeve your axles as well?

I'll probably end up putting on the Offroad Evolution 44 sleeves.

WM3...you totally had me with the M3...but, well, Gecko? Oy! At least you went with some black flares...that lad with the all Gecko Sahara actually causes my eyes pain every time I see it...it's that bright!

Honestly, since your project was all about understatement, the Gecko seems like an odd color choice. =)

What's interesting to me, is how well the Jeep's lines and style, such as they are, hold up to that sort of alteration. If anything, larger wheels and tires manage to look at home on a Jeep...anything from 33 inches to 40.

I think your garage is cool as hell and I admire that you had the opportunity to build what you wanted. I'm apparently the only one that read your "rolling on 20s" comment as lots of 20 dollar bills (witty!) rather than trying to pass the cost off with faux nonchalance. Some folks seem to forget that as long as both parties in a transaction are satisfied then the price was what it needed to be...everyone values things just a little differently.

They just released them and they're on sale. No experience, but from what I've been reading they're pretty bomb proof and alot of people run their gear on bigger axles.

Artec Gussets/axle supports

Spoke with the guys at Artec, after talking to him I get the feel these will be all I need to do. He says these things are so massively built, that once fully welded on adding axle sleeves would be overkill and unnecessary. I think I'm going to strongly consider them, he says they ship in 2 weeks.

for 40s, theres alot to be said for having the axle as strong as possible. However, one thing to note is, for the extreme wheeler, one conversation you need to have with yourself is "I have the highest traction tires known to man. I have twice as much HP as stock. I have a 6 pack of quality beer, and no fear of the skinny peddle. Something will break. What is that?" When you upgrade parts, make sure the weak link is not something stupid expensive and hard to replace. Most folks will advocate for going with wussy (aka factory or slightly better than factory) axle shafts, just to make sure the thing you destory isn't the ring and pinion that you decided not to give some cryo love to.
