Griffith's JK Build

A litte background about myself and the Jeep thus far. I ordered my Jeep while I was stationed in Japan and picked it up January 2013 while I was home. 2013 JK, 6 Speed, 3.73 gears, 6 speaker alpine, limited slip RD, Block Heater (Alaska). And an AFE exhaust system that I added.

Getting ready for the long PCS to Alaska. I broke it in during my leave at home in Virginia and then planned the route nearly 5,000 miles to Alaska. 2 weeks, 2 cracked windshields, and the road trip of a lifetime later, I was finally in Alaska.

I kept putting off mods because of the lack of funds. I wanted to be able to do everything I want, without going into debt. Luckily, I'm currently deployed and have been able to save over the last 6 months. My time here is finally drawing to an end, so the ordering process has started. So far this is what I have in store.

Rock Krawler 2.5" with FL Adjustable control arms
Bilstein 5100's
17" Matte Black ION Alloy 179's w/ 1.5" wheel spacers
315/70/17 Goodyear Duratracs (Snowy Alaska)
Poison Spyder Tramp Stamp
Rear Bumper Removal (I personally like the look)

I'm still trying to decide on a stubby front bumper as well.

This build should start around April 15th. I'm really excited to get back to Alaska and start this entire process. Please feel free to add any comments, constrictive criticism, or questions you may have!

A man with a plan - the build sounds fun, enjoy it and keep the pictures coming.

I've been home for 2 weeks now and had planned on posting on here as I went. But honestly, I just got so into doing things to the Jeep that I never made time for it. So here it goes.

When I got home the lift kit and tires had already arrived and they were ready to go on.

We started the first weekend and it took us about a day and a half to get it done. I'm sure we could've done it faster but we definitely didn't rush, and we made a LOT of little trips back and forth to town.

Here's a couple shots of the progress in the front.

We finished the front the first day and here's what it looked like with the lift on the front, and not on the back.

I didn't take any pictures during the rear installation. But I do have something to say about it. The rear was 10 times easier overall.

Here it is with the 2.5" RK lift on stock tires.

The next thing to do was to get it to a shop and get the new tires mounted. As for the wheels, if you've read my pre-build list you'd notice that I ordered ION Alloys. Amazon sent them but sent the wrong color, needless to say I sent them back and they refunded my money. So I was stuck to use spacers and put the stock wheels on. At first I was pretty upset about them sending the wrong wheels. But after having the stockers on the new tires, I'm growing more and more fond of them.

Here it is after the tires were mounted and I had the windows tinted.

Next step was pulling off the tire carrier and putting on the Poison Spyder Tramp Stamp, as well as removing the rear bumper all together.

Here's how it turned out.

Next thing in line was cutting the fenders. I used a Dremel Circular saw and it worked just as good as I expected it to. Then sanded and lined the edges with thin door seal that you can get at any automotive store.

Here's the finished product of the fenders.

And this is how she's sitting at the moment. Front plastic bumper off. Waiting till the 30th to pick up a new front bumper. A big thanks to my buddy and housemate Jimi (ImpTroop) for helping me with everything in this build. And also helping me down a couple cases of beer!

The Snow is almost gone and the Alaskan summer is near!
