Got Some Wrenching Done

I had some time to get some parts installed on Rubi today. Headlights were a simple swap in. Then it was on to the bumper and the Stinger install. I had ordered the parts to prep for a possible winch down the road. I figured I would have it apart, and I'm a parts junkie anyway. These parts included the centering plate, and license plate relocation bracket. I'm still waiting on the fairlead.

Here's how it began this a.m...

The Stinger bolted up nicely, the instructions were pretty complete and easy to follow. You have to first bolt in two reinforcement brackets to the frame, and then those bolt up to the bottom of the stinger(inside the bumper). I'm impressed with the Maximus-3 quality, all the welds look great, finish is great. I noticed the factory used red loctite on all the bolts, so I did the same.
Here's some pics...

https://maximus-3.com

Next came the J.W. Speaker LED fogs. I took the bumper end caps off to get access to the fogs. You have to bolt a Maximus bracket to fogs to get them to bolt up to the bumper. You also have to modify the fog casing by cutting off the outside tabs...that had me triple checking that before getting the snips out and cutting on brand new fogs. After that, it's a straight bolt in affair.
Here's a shot with only one fog in for comparison with the stock fog...

All lit up...

The headlights/fog upgrade is an amazing upgrade. It's bringing modern illumination to the JK. Not only do they look cool, they really work!

LED Jeep Lights - Model 8700 Evolution J Off Road Headlights

Finished up...

This shot gives you a good idea of the stance with the 1.5" spacers...

Random shots...

That hood...it knocks me out every time I sit in the drivers seat

Nevets.... looking great, my man! Those lights are awesome; gotta go there myself at some point. Thanks for posting the pic of all the new lights on at the same time, I've been wanting to really see how they look on a Jeep.

Funny thing about the hood, my wife keeps commenting about how much she likes the look of the hood on our HR. I wasn't expecting that from her. Go figure.

The AEV procal allows you to program your fog lights as you DRL's (daytime running lights), thats how I have my JW J-series fogs setup. They also stay on when your headlights come on. The J-series fogs really make a huge difference IMO, a must have!!

Agree. I knew the JWS headlights would be a drastic improvement but I was skeptical about the fogs. Weeks passed before I gave in. The two truly compliment each other, not only in light color and appearance but in light projection. No regrets.

The JWS tail lights, on the other hand, are not that impressive from a functional standpoint. Sure they look cool and are a bit brighter but, for the money, it's kind of a long run for a short slide. That said, I have them.

Excellent. Good to know. I'll have to put my ProCal to use on that feature.

Here are some crappy pics I took during the installation. They JWS tails are nice, excellent quality. They keep the mod effort going and set you apart. But there are not the dramatic improvement like the heads/fogs.

^ Thanks for the pics Lysdexic! The one real benefit I was hoping to see was better backup illumination? Do you notice that?

That's because the light output is regulated by the DOT in order to obtain their cert standards. So you won't find DOT lights that are much brighter. You'll have to add your own light if you want additionally brightness.

Good info Johnny, your Hard Rock build is impressive by the way! I'll most likely add a dedicated back up light then. I'm going to install the sPod system, and I'll have the switch available. Time to start researching what set-ups my JK brothers are doing

Got a few more things done on Rubi today. I ordered the Mopar stainless steel door sills...

Typical good OEM quality. I really like how they tie in with the rest of the interior silver accents...

Also bolted in the Maximus-3 Maglite holder...

And lastly, my fairlead arrived. The Factor 55 finish is gorgeous. I also did a bit of a custom bend on the Maximus-3 plate holder. Here's a look...

I sourced a stainless alan head to match the OEM theme...

Johnny - You speaketh the truth and I did know that before purchasing. Still, the light output from the stock taillights was so anemic I held out hope for an improvement.

Thank you! Yours is looking great as well. I'm jealous of your photography skills, I got a dslr last month but my pics look nothing like yours.

The spod is worth it, I have one and love it. If I can answer any questions about it let me know.

I'll be hitting you up with questions I'm sure. With that in mind, what colors did you go with on your sPod switch panel? Did you get the 6 switch panel? I just looked at your build but didn't see anything on it.

I wasn't able to get any good pics with my point and shoot, and I forgot to take them with the new camera but I'll try tomorrow. I went with the blue dual switches. I did the 6 switch pod with the air gage. Then I added OTRTTW custom switches. They are great.

Your Jeep is coming along nicely, good job!! I like the way the green switches look for the sPod, think it will blend in better with the factory green colored lighting. Thats my plan for my sPod down the road. And as Johnny said OTRTTW custom switches are a must have with the sPod's

I'll take a look at the OTRATTW switches. I'd be great to customize this setup. I'm still thinking on what lights I will run, but it would be nice to have this installed to build on. Talk soon.

I got my AEV ProCal today.

First off I want to program DRL's. Does anyone have experience with this? I know I can run the fogs as my DRL's, but I'm wondering if it is possible to program any part of the J.W. Speaker LED headlights to run as DRL's?

I used my Flashcal to program so your procedure may differ and have NOT tried all the different DRL settings. From my understanding the the drl can be fogs or the headlights but not both. Also, the JWS headlights will functions as drl' with only the high beam projector on a lower power output. No halo.

Thanks! I'm hoping to get a chance to program the headlights this weekend. I'll post what I find.

Thanks for the thoughts Unstuck!
I threw up a pic in my build thread of the switches lit up tonight, I don't like posting my Jeep in other people's threads plus my pics look like they were taken with a toy camera compared to yours, so figured I'd throw a message in here.

Unstuck does make a good point about going green to match. To me it wasn't all that important, especially since I knew I was going with the Pioneer head unit which also has blue illumination, but I can see why people would want to go green to keep everything as matching as possible.

Meant to comment before that fairlead is absolutely beautiful. I think you just sold me on one from Factor when the time comes.

I have the Procal with JW Speakers as well, but I'm not a big fan of the DRL's so I haven't messed with it. I'll be curious to hear what you find though.

@ Johnny I just took a look at your new pics, thanks! Also, the finish on the Factor55 fairlead would look great with your wheels...just saying
