Cool JimMariner's "Da-Jeep" Birth and Build

Hello All, My name is Jim and my Jeeps name is simple, it's "Da-Jeep"

After seeing others build threads, I thought, what the heck, why not join in too.

So I will try to post as I take my Plain Jane Flame Red 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara on a trip from parking lot queen to fun on and off road toy.

It starts with my Used 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. It seems to have been unmolested, never off roaded that I can tell. It was so nice and pretty underneath as it looked on top. All Stock.

This is how she looked my first day with her.

As time goes by, her looks will change. Her stance will change. her behavior will change. Only for the better I hope.

So here goes nuttin fellow forum'ers , So It begins

Then came the Grill Mesh inserts I have seen so many do in real life and on the forum.

I went the make your own style. Home Depot had the supplies, I had the willingness to snip, cut, glue, screw up, start over again, pay 3 times what it would have cost if I had bought the inserts off EBay instead of being thick headed thinking Ii had a better way. But, I got it done, they came out great, and I did it all myself. I also have spare parts now for another unnamed job to be done sometime in the future now.

So I started with these, Plastic Coated Wire Mess Gutter Guard.

I cut them down into 7 strips to fit each opening in the grill.
Then Glued and Zip Tied them in place With these. I pealed off the sticky pads and used epoxy glue.

And this is the end result, I am very happy with the results too.

This was a very easy mod, just take your time, don't rush it.

I then joined a local 4x4 Club, to find other like minded individuals who enjoy working on vehicles and having fun with them. And were also family oriented so this wasn't just a guys club thing. Yes we do just guy things, but the club also does family activities as well. Helps justify some of the cost of my, uh, hmm, upgrades

Next for Club Requirements for Rides I needed to install a CB Radio.
So from what I saw on the forum here, I did my install much the same as many others.

I bought a small size CB Radio from EBay, I Love EBay and Amazon,

And Antenna, RG58 wire,
a bracket for the spare tire mount to attach the Antenna to.

Then I thought, Man, I don't want all these wires running to the battery. That would look like C***, so I added a Blue Seas Fuzed Power Block to connect it all.

Amazon Purchase

Switches & Relays, Something has to power it all up and turn them on.

My first lights came with this switch I stuck under the steering column.

Name:	first light switch.jpg
Views:	362
Size:	21.4 KB
ID:	562522

Didn't like it, plus it had a red light on when it was OFF, a green light on when it was ON. Since it wasn't switch by the Key, this could not be left as is.

So I did this, I didn't like the look of the premade switch pillars, so I did my own. Switches from, you know it, EBay.

Now I have a central location for the switches, easy to access,
only light up red when they are turned on.

Just remember Red+ and Black- Makes sparks, do Not Make Sparks

Not hard at all. Everything needs a hot wire and a ground to function. This Fuse Block (BlueSeas Systems 5026 ST Blade Fuse Block) has both a Negative Side and a Positive Fused side. I make all my connections one at a time, make sure there is no phantom power drains with the switches off. If you have a power drain, or sparks, something is wrong. Or turned on. Make sure all your switches are off.

Have a good power meter handy too. Check all your connections as you make them. Good Crimp On shrink wrap wire ends.

Practice on the ground if you are nervous. Read online. Make some practice runs before your initial install. Draw a diagram to help your mind get around what you are actually doing.

If in doubt, see if any of your friends have any knowledge, or join a club, they should be able to help too.

I also bet there is good info on YouTube too. Plenty online as well.

I also installed a Gas Cap Door. I looked at the ones the dealer had on some of the Jeeps, I liked them, but not the price they wanted. I saw these on EBay for half the price out of China, I read more about them. Saw others buy them on the forum, thought, what the heck, So I bought it too. I watch the video on you tube on how to install it. Piece Of Cake easy.

The Locking gas Cap is one I had on my Ford F-150, I Lock Everything I can.

Easy as that too.

So the transformation is happening as quick as the money can flow in. I really need to hit the lotto .

I just ordered a
JK Wrangler Front Mid-width Pre-Runner Winch Bumper (Half-Sunk)

JK Wrangler 4 Door Classic Rock Sliders (Bolt-On)

Name:	JK4DRCLS5.jpg
Views:	659

So they should arrive in the next week or so and that will be my next project.

I am planning on a 2.5 inch lift, 35 inch tires, new rims most likely.
Maybe a body lift if I need it after the larger tires are installed.

I want to keep the drivability onroad but still have some of the benefits offroad of the lift. This after all is my DD.

Also a nice new winch to go with that new bumper.

I am sure this will be a never ending project. But, Ain't it FUN !!!

Hey Lt Dan,

Do a search on EBay for "120W 24" LED Alloy Spot Flood Combo" Any vendor is about the same as the next. I spent 119 bucks on mine, I see them cheaper, I see them more expensive. Just pick and shoot. (I went for the best reputation of the seller) Shipping from any of them is about a week.

I activate it via a 12 volt relay and the tiny switches on my window pillar. All power comes through my Power Fuse Block I installed for extras.

I Removed my Sahara silver trim, drilled through the plastic on the stock bumper, used nuts and bolts with BIG washers. First time I bolted it up, the nut with a small washer pulled right through the plastic.

Hope this helps, if not, ask further.

This one

JcrOffroad, Inc. JK Wrangler Rear Bumper - Standard

or this one

JcrOffroad, Inc. JK Wrangler Rear Tire Carrier Bumper - Deluxe

It's all about the money I may have available at the time too. While I'd love the one with tire carrier. But, it's all about the $$$

These are at the top of my list for now.
