JK Hemi Swap Build Thread

So I recently bought my first wrangler (4 door JK), and just starting to mod it. My eventual goal (to be done before summer) is a 6.1L Hemi Swap, so far I just put on the 10th anniversary hood, and ordered 18" Fuel Octane Wheels, same as pictured below with a 2.5" Terrflex kit and 35" tires. I will continually update this thread as I slowly but surely mod my Jeep!

Also I was hoping to get some opinions on bumpers, I'm planning on blacking out the truck and more than likely wrapping it when everything else is done. I really liked the 10a bumpers but after a quick call to my local dealership and their $3,650 I'm sure there are much better and cheaper things to spend my money on. Also I was curious if the 5th wheel will mount to the stock bracket on the back or if I'd have to get an aftermarket one, thanks again guys and enjoy the pics!

Good choice on the 6.1 Hemi. I've owned two of them, in a Challenger and a Grand Cherokee SRT8. That engine produces the most horsepower per cubic inch of any engine Mopar makes. You'll love it. I have a 6.4 Hemi in my JK and its the best mod I've ever made to a vehicle. The 6.4 Hemi makes the Jeep worth owning.

Your pictures just look like red x's to me, so maybe its a problem with my server at work. I'll have to check from home.

For bumpers I would recommend an Expedition One Core Series front bumper and an Expedition One Trail Series rear bumper, which can be purchased in aluminum.

The stock spare tire carrier will work for a while, but eventually will make the tailgate start to sag and rattle. Go with a Teraflex spare tire carrier and tailgate hinge, which is lightweight aluminum, but super strong.

Yeah I was going to go with the KMC XD Misfit wheels but there are so many of them on Wrangler's I wanted something different. Also a few pictures from putting the lift and wheels on today. I'll try to snap a couple tomorrow in the daylight with them on.

The one with all the plastic on it is the GC SRT-8 that I bought for the motor.

Lots of smaller stuff coming in the near future. Still contemplating on which bumpers to get. Leaning towards AEV's but haven't made up my mind 100% yet.

I will try to put up as much helpful information as I can.

Another picture of the wheels on in the meantime:

Some more updates and of course pictures. Picked up my AEV front and rear bumpers. Also removed the chrome mirror caps, and chrome tail light guards (will sell them fairly cheap if someones interested). Also wrapped my grill in matte black but I'm not too happy with the color matching so I think I'm gonna try to find anther one. Probably black rock rails and tints next.

Nice jeep and corvette. I remember seeing a red one like that over the summer once. Great cat. Anyways I was wondering what kind of tires those are? I know I've seen them before but for some reason right now I can't think of what they are.

Thanks! The tires are Federal Couragia MT, mine are 12.5x35R18. I believe I paid $207 a piece for them.

Wow! That's pretty cheap considering they're for 18s. Pretty much all tires I've seen in that size are at least 300. I might have to strongly consider those now They seem like good tires, but from what I've read some people give them mixed reviews. What do you think about them having had them on your Jeep?

I like them. They're not too loud, and great in the slush and rain. I had them on an F-350 that I had before that's why I got them.

Good luck with your HEMI JK swap. I've built and owned a 5.7L, 6.1L, 6.4L and a 6.4L Stroker Jeep swap. I think I saw that you are now using the 6.4L instead of the 6.1, if so GOOD call. The 6.1L SRT8 doesn't work as well in the JK as the 5.7L or the 6.4L SRT8 engines. The 6.1L is great for a car but for a Jeep the HP/torque curve is set too high to work as well in a Jeep, unless you're spinning very high RPM's. Been there had that.

Good luck and here's some eye candy for you and your build.

I don't have the space to do it right now. Hopefully the weather will start to get better soon. I'm hoping to have it done before May. I have done some other small stuff here and there. Tinted my windows, moved my plate, and got some grab handles (long overdue). Here are some pics to hold over until I can post a real update.

Just gotta love Jeep guys with big engines! *swoon* My Lunatic has a Hemi. The funniest part is pulling up next to little ricer cars or stock pony car boys with doors and roof off, Jeep wearing enough desert dust to build a sandbox. They must be thinking "Ooh that Jeep guy thinks he looks cool driving that brick that cant get out of its own way with no doors (and that chick with him-ie me-is absolutely HOT lollzzzz!). Well let me rev my engine and show off to him!." They go zoom zoom-then their jaws drop as they hear the Hemi coming up their rear and blowing by, leaving them literally eating all that desert dust blowing out of the Jeep....and on big enough tires fully capable of coming right up onto their roof. ROTFL!!!!

Yeah I thought about that. Couldn't really come up with anything to be honest. I'll probably take some suggestions.
