Sorry for bringing this up so late, but what stopped you from going with the ACE tube fenders? I like their look, and they're metal.

Hey man, I'm sorry about getting back to with so much delay.

I ultimately chose the JCR sliders because they are more tucked up close to the body than the ACE sliders. I also like the rocker panel armor that is integrated in the JCR sliders.

See how the sliders have that rocker panel protection and go up onto the panels a little? I think that's a real tough look and really like that feature too.

Santa did bring me some toys!

.....

Although, they're all for our soon-to-arrive baby!

Got a rad stroller! This thing is sitting on some 16" wheels wrapped in 16x1.75" rubber.

I'm thinking some OBA will mount nicely underneath for those air-down situations. Mount a light bar up front for some nice visibility.

But for real, we used Christmas as a way to stock up on baby gear for our new arrival (first child) in March. Couldn't be more excited.

As a result, Jeep goodies have gone on hold for a little while.

congrats kramer! if you can't find wheeling buddies, create them.

our first is due in May. my wife and i have already paid for jeep jamboree trip in nov because we are going to need the break.

we did opposite approach. saved and got secure, now flood gates open on mods. so, i kept mine stock to save and prepare and now beginning to add stuff.

MOLLE fix

hey kramer2k i used a chair leg rubber caps that i found at the hardware store to fix my tailgate molle rack. I just used a self tapping screw and mounted the cap in the center of the rack. i screwed the rubber cap into the tailgate. this will solve the rattle completely. I can't remember what size i used but it was either 3/4 or 5/8. Shop Waxman 4-Pack 3/4-in Rubber Tips at Lowes.com.

I'm looking to build a similar carrier for my jeep. Do you know if you bought the Near, Far, or Extra Far model swing away arm? There is a picture on there site showing these different models which changes the distance between the hitch pin hole and edge of where the cargo box would be located. The extra far model is 14.25" and the far is 12.75". I think I can get away with the far model but it will be close.

How has the setup worked for you so far?

I had been looking high and low for a suitable cargo carrier that satisfied a particular set of criteria. I wanted it to swing away from the rear of the tailgate, thus allowing me to access cargo back there and to utilize my tailgate fold down table. It had to clear my spare tire so that I could in fact open the tailgate and not have it interfere with the spare tire.

I found a company called StowAway2 that makes a swing away arm with either a rack attached or a cargo box. Their rack wouldn't work because it has such a high side on it. That wouldn't have allowed the tailgate to open due to interference with the spare tire.

I found that they offer the frame only. I sprung for that and then worked on finding a rack to mount on top of it.

I wanted an aluminum frame to cut down on weight. I found the Curt Folding aluminum carrier on Amazon for $100.

The carrier comes with parts I won't need obviously. Here's everything in the box.

And here's the carrier just the way it came in the box. It was fully assembled and I plugged it right into my drop hitch receiver.

The frame has triple redundant safety features to keep it secured.

The orange handle unlatches it. The t-bolt screws into the swinging arm.

And the hinge has a safety pin to hold it closed or at 90* if on a hill.

Here it is opened to 90*.

And here it is opened 180*.

I then assembled just the top part of the aluminum cargo carrier so that I could place it on top of the swinging frame.

I had to come up with a way to reinforce the carrier and have it sit properly on the frame arms.

I bought some 3/16" steel bar from HD and cut it to fit the carrier width. I placed a piece on top and on bottom and drilled holes that lined up with those in the frame support arms.

I had to cut a couple pieces of the grate to get the carrier to sit evenly.

TO BE CONTINUED…

It has worked fantastic so far. It was exactly what I was looking for from the start of brainstorming a device.

I cannot recall which length arm I went with. I knew it wouldn't matter in my case because I knew none of them would work without combining it with the drop hitch extension I have on there. My 35" spare created that necessity.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize you had the drop hitch extension. What is the length of the extension you have? Also if you don't mind me asking, we're you able to find a good price with shipping on the frame? The best I can find is on Amazon for $200+$50 shipping!

Official due date is March 14. But it's questionable if we'll make it to that date. Getting close!

The drop hitch is StowAway brand, and I got it from FastTrackRacks for $67.

I got the swinging frame-only setup directly from StowAway for around $215 shipped. I think I had a small discount and got free shipping. It was something like that. I hope this helps.

Congrats on new edition kramer2k
rig looks awesome, I also am working on my '13 CG JKU, adding the smaller mods while saving up for bigger pieces. Wondering how that stubby antenna X works for you? I think that simply changes that area into beast mode. Are those grille inserts solid or kinda plastic feeling? did you have to pull front grille off for application. Keep up the good work.

Yes! It's been an awesome couple of weeks. All the adjustments and lack of sleep are totally worth it.

BTW, congrats on your upcoming arrival.

The stubby antenna is great for me, but I don't listen to radio. I pretty much use Pandora streamed via BT through my aftermarket head unit 99% of the time. The grille inserts are very solid. They're metal, and pretty heavy gauge metal at that. Not flimsy at all. You do have to remove the grille for installation, but that is literally a 5 minute job. There's a lot of tutorials out there to help you along.
